Pureology Nanoworks Shampoo —

My stylist talked me into trying this shampoo five years ago, and I am so glad that he did! My hair had years of build-up on it from cheap shampoos. It took almost a year of monthly clarifying treatments to strip off the goo. And when we finally managed it, I wanted something that would heal and protect my damaged hair, without gunking it up again.

I was also playing around with my hair's colour at the time, and found that my dark-brown hair held an auburn hue and highlights for a lot longer when I used Nanoworks, even though I wash my hair daily. Even now, when I am not regularly colouring my hair, I find my natural highlights more prominent and my regular colour a lot shinier since I started using Nanoworks.

My hair is softer and more manageable, even though I don't condition often because I have very oily hair. And since I have very curly hair that is also coarse and thick, manageability is a big issue. Where I live, the weather is very humid in summer and very dry in winter. I have far fewer problems with "flyaway" or staticky hair, even when I don't use the complementary conditioner. I also don't seem to get as many snarls and tangles in my hair since I started using Nanoworks.

I like the fact that it's a natural product. There is nothing in this shampoo that irritates my sensitive scalp, and nothing that dries out my hair -- or, worse, gunks it up. Another plus for this shampoo is the scent. I am highly sensitive to fragrances, and Nanoworks has a light, subtle scent that does not make me ill or give me a migraine.

Admittedly, Nanoworks seems expensive. At $50 for a 10-ounce bottle, it's $5 an ounce! BUT it's so highly concentrated that I can use a nickel-sized blob on my thick, shoulder-length hair and get plenty of lather, so long as my hair is good and wet. I have made a 10-oz. bottle last up to five months, washing every day! That works out to about thirty cents a day -- about the same as the grocery-store stuff that was $2.50 for a bottle that lasted a week.

I am completely sold on this product!
