I recently received a sample of the new PureVia sweetener, tried it out a few different ways, and I can give it my whole-hearted approval!
I usually make my morning cup of coffee with 1 tsp. of Splenda and 1 (heaping) tsp. of real sugar.....and a splash of soymilk. A couple of days ago, I was running late...but also wanted to try Purevia....so I grabbed a couple of the packets and did NOT use any real sugar. Honestly, the coffee tasted great! I didn't miss the regular sugar at all. Now I know that saving 20 calories may not mean much to many of you, but for those trying to lose weight, any small change here or there can add up.
At snack time, I added 1/2 a packet to some raspberries I brought along (from our garden). They weren't as sweet as they could have been, so the little bit of PureVia made them more the real treat that they should be....sweet and tasty. I didn't notice any after taste, either.
And lastly, I added a packet to my evening tea. It was a nice smooth cup, and it tasted perfect. No detectable difference from Splenda or sugar.
I especially like that PureVia is made from Stevia. I actually grew some Stevia in my garden a couple of years ago...dried the leaves...and pulverized them into a powder, thinking that I could use that in hot liquids. It really didn't work....the leaves don't dissolve and it was certainly less than a successful experiment! SO MUCH easier to open a packet!
I'm not sure I would use PureVia in recipes. I don't usually use Splenda or other "not sugar" sweeteners in recipes. I like the convenience of having the packets for quick home use, or bringing to work, but it seems too expensive to buy in bulk for home baking or other cooking. Really, I feel like if you are going to bake something sweet, make it with sugar, and cut back on the day-to-day stuff....like 20 fewer calories in your morning coffee. :-)
I will definitely buy PureVia....although I usually tend to buy products like this when they are on sale.I want the convenience, but still want a good price. To me, it's pretty comparable in taste to Splenda, but I love that PureVia is made with Stevia, and is all natural.
