Puerto Vallarta is a great vacation spot in Mexico, depending on what you're looking for.

If you want pristine beaches, touristy activities, English speaking everyone, everywhere, then this is not the place for you.

If you want to experience the Mexican culture rather than just be a tourist, and you don't mind a less clean beach with harsher waves... If you're looking for great local cuisine, some "real" Mexican interactions... then this is a great place for you!

Puerto Vallarta is often cheaper than other places, because it's older.  It has less tourist appeal, and it can even be kind of dirty and scary in places.  But it's got much more history than places like Cancun, and it's full of fun things to do, and places to go!  It is a wonderful city!

I recommend doing some of the tours: there is one where you can slide down a waterfall, that one is awesome!  Also there is one where you can go to an island for a show and dinner, DO THAT!  It was awesome  (maybe called Rhythms of the Night) or something like that... it is SO worth the price you pay!!!!!!

Right on! I think I know the place you're talking about with the waterfall you can slide down. Was this up on the mountain above Mismaloya?? If it's the place I'm thinking, it's the jungle where Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie "Predator" was filmed, and there's also a restaurant with a rope swing over a deep pool of water....great fun!
