spotgift says "Life changing" about Prozac Antidepressant

Prozac is not for everyone but it helped me change my life. I could barely manage work and getting supper on the table before seeing my m.d. and him prescribing this drug.

I went from barely surviving to excelling at work, going back to college, growing a garden, learning to sew, all while taking care of my children and step children.

It did not make me feel drugged or hyper it just made me feel normal again. Able to deal with life instead of trying to sleep it away.

Before trying it I had suicidal thoughts and would often sit at the side of a river wondering how deep it was and if I drove in would it be deep enough to drown me or would I just ruin my car.

I no longer have such thoughts and am living life and enjoying my children like I should. My husband saw a profound difference in me and is very pleased that I sought help.

Some people do not have the same results but I believe it's worth trying.
...

morg326 says "Prozac (fluoxetine) helps to control my anxiety." about Prozac Antidepressant

I am currently a big fan of Prozac, and am taking 20mg a day of the generic called Fluoxetine. I was diagnosed with General Anxiety disorder in October of 2007, and had been having anxiety attacks with symptoms of feeling anxious, tightness of the chest, overall uneasy feeling, nausea, inability to cope with the situation, etc. Originally I was prescribed given Xanax by a GI doctor, and then Paxil by my general physician, and it worked well for me for about 6 months. Unfortunately I started to have uncomfortable side effects, especially weight gain, so I requested my doctor prescribe me a different type of medication. I started Prozac towards the end of 2008, and found that it started working very well! I was not experiencing the same side-effects of Paxil (weight gain, fatigue during the day, insomnia at night, night sweats), and felt that the medication was effective in treating my condition. I have also experienced less random anxiety attacks while on Prozac then when I was on Paxil....
...

i had alot of outbursts in my life even at work so i kinda knew i needed to do something i was haing issues with temper mood swings and very bad outbusts it wouldn't take alot to make me mad at all i was always yelling, saying bad words and emotionally i was in turmoil everyday. So i made a doctors appointment found out that dr always prescibes the most used medication and i told him i didn't want to take anything that would make me gain weight but the dr said all most all anti depression medications cause weight gain so i didn't really like having to take it because of that.but it did work for having out bursts and yelling and keeping you calm,it was kinda like the med wouldn't let you have a outburst of any kind but i do know know that the weight gain part is a reality cause i use to be 120 pounds now i'm up to 160 pounds and i walk and excecise but can't seem to get rid of the belly fat that i have, but over all its a good med.
...

My mother died in 2005. I was very depressed afterwards and really didn't feel like doing much of anything. It took me a long time to get the courage up to go to the doctor and talk to him about it. He suggested putting me on a low dosage of Prozac (fluoxetine). It completely changed my life. I take it once a day, just 20 milligrams. I take it along with 100 milligrams of Wellbutrin (bupropion). It is a lifesaver for me. My depression has gone away. I am less anxious and upset at the "small things" in life. I can actually get up and moving every morning and enjoy doing things with my children and husband. Prozac (fluoxetine) may not be the answer for everyone, but I have certainly benefitted from it. I have actually been less irritable, more able to handle stressful situations, and overall just feeling more like my "old self" again. To feel "normal" again has certainly been a blessing, not only to me, but to my whole family!
...

I took Prozac for a year and a half. Overall it worked wonderfully. The side effects are why I discontinued using the medicine. I had absolutely no sexual interest like I was used to and I gained about 30 pounds. The medicine works great for depression and anxiety. It saved my life, but now that I am not as depressed, I switched to something else in hopes that the side effects won't be as bad. It was also easy for me to quit!
...

willona says "Fluoxetine gives you WINGS" about Prozac Antidepressant

Fluoxetine is the generic form of Prozac but there is nothing generic about the side effects. This antidepressant was given to me by my doctor in a 20mg form of one pill once a day and I was on it for about about a month.

I thought I was okay because I could feel myself floating out side of my body. I would wake up to be tired, constantly thinking about death. Then my babies lost my pill bottle for about a week thats when all hell hit the fan literally. Worst then waking up to be tired was waking up to die. All I thought about was death: walking down the stairs I am going to fall and break my neck, driving I am going to crash. Kids school called they died, my heart beat to fast I thought I was dying.

I was out of my mind. I felt like I was looking down on myself but couldn't do anything to help myself. I cried for no reason and very very irritable. I called the doctor and was informed to keep taking it. Then I woke up wanting to kill myself--final straw. After the advice of my aunt...
...

I was on Prozac for less than 2 months. I absolutely hated it. It did not help me at all. In fact, it made my situation worse. I had hallucinations and manic episodes. Unfortunately, it also triggered seizures. I'm not sure that is a common side effect, but that's what happened in my case. I would not reccomend this product to anyone, and everyone I've talked to has had nothing but bad things to say about this medication. I am not saying that this happens to all people, for some people it might be wonderful. But I've never heard anything good about it, and was leary about starting it at all. I only started it because it was the quickest med my doc could get me on. I think it's a dangerous drug...

I lost my second grandchild in a 2 year period and really had a difficult time dealing with it all. I finally opted to go on this medication Prozac as my anxiety was so severe I couldn't sleep, function, mind stop, etc. After 3 weeks of mild side effects I really had some relief and kinda felt somewhat a little normal again. After 4 months of being on this medication however, my sexual function went from always desirable to none and not being able to sexually function anymore, enough to take myself off this. I am now on my 3rd week of going off this medication and I have to say it has been pure hell!!! I have been so tired and my muscles are so dang weak. I feel like somewhat beat my whole body up. Although I feel like this medication really helped me at such a trying time in my life, I would not recommend anyone to have to go on this medication. It is too much hell to go through to get off it!!...

This drug is very mixed....hmmm.

First 2 weeks i got worse - sleeping 16 hours a day, nausea, slightly increased suicidal thoughts but after the first 2 weeks i had no problems. I even increased my dosage to 40mg and 60mg with no problems. However, this drug did lead to my dizziness and eventual collapse from posterial hypertension. But....I sufferred no withdrawl and this was the worst that happenned to me after 10 months on the drug and now id like to say "im all better" (although can never say cured). Give it a chance - it does geta bit too much negtive press in my opinion. These are very "individual" drugs and if you have good GPs like i did ull never have a problem
...

I have taken Prozac or Fluoxetine, off and on for about ten years. Every time I quit taking it, I feel horrible and go into worse depression than I had to start with. For the first week I start taking it again (I have gone off and on it many many times) I have joint pain and flu symptoms. The first time I took Prozac, I thought I was having a really bad side effect, which I guess I was. But I kept going with it, at my doctors' requests. Usually I feel no better at all for many months. In fact, this last time I started it again (last December) After about 8 days I felt much worse depression and almost quit taking it. My lastest doctor wants me to try a combo of prozac and wellbutrin and also xanax as needed. My depression does seem to have gotten a little better, but not too much and not as much as I would like. I wish I felt like I had ten years ago when I was depressed and started these pills! Even though I felt horrible then, it's better than now. However, every time I QUIT...
...

I started on this after the birth of my second daughter. I had postpartum psychosis, which is where you actually go crazy. It was depression and voices and insanity and HORRIBLE! I had no reality at that point, and this is what my doc put me on. Within days of starting it, I was so tired that I couldn't get out of bed. I would have terrible dreams whenever I tried to sleep, but would sleep for 18+ hours a day. I alternated between nauseaus and ravenous, so would eat like a pig, feel sick, then go to bed. I gained 20 pounds in a month, and became terrible person as well. I had no conscience, felt no emotions, my baby would cry and I would not care! I'd stay in bed and let her cry. It stopped my depression, but I hated the person that it made me. I told my doc about this at my 1 month recheck, and he quickly chaged me to Well butrin. Within days I was better, back to myself and feeling great! I lost all the weight that I had gained and felt fantastic. After my son 2 years later, we just put......
