Prozac Antidepressant —

This is a difficult review to write. Although we have come a long way in understanding mental disorders, I still feel uncomfortable talking about my anxiety disorder. Then again, not talking about it makes it seem shameful when it is not. A lot has been written about the drug Prozac, both good and bad. I am weighing in on the good side. Since being diagnosed with anxiety disorder and prescribed Prozac ten years ago, I have to say the Prozac has really helped me especially with obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD). The OCD was overwhelming until the Prozac kicked in. Although Prozac is labeled an anti-depressant, it can also help with anxiety and related disorders. I have not had any side effects except drowsiness. It should be noted this drug is not a cure-all, and I also take the drug Buspar. Although Prozac is not for everybody, it should be considered for anxiety as well as depression.

In response to ilikeme's comment from Nov 24, 2007 at 6:45PM:

I take 20 mag, two times a day. My OCD symptoms were not being sure I had turned off something so I would press the TV button alot. I was unsure I read something right. I just felt the need to repeat what I was unsure of. I don't mind taking it the rest of my life. Anxiety runs in my family, and I know I will always experience it to some degree especially when I get older.

Interesting but my question is what dosage were you taking? Secondly, what were your ocd symptoms? Finally, if you have taken it for 10 years does this tell me that it is a lifetime prescription--that is, will you be on it for the rest of your life. Is that ok with you? ThankU*

You bet it is difficult to talk about. I have had an anxiety disorder (complete with lovely panic attacks) since I was a kid. Antidepressants don't work for me (side effects are worse than the anxiety) but I am glad this worked for you. I have overcome a LOT of my anxiety but it is always there, waiting to pounce. Thank you for coming forth and writing this. We are born certain ways and that is nothing to be ashamed of.
