Project Runway is now in its 4th season and the designers are as talented, crazy and individual as in the past. If you have never seen this show - you don't know what you are missing! Each week fashion designers create an outfit based on what the challenge is. The outfits are judged in a runway show, and the loser has to go home while the winner usually gets immunity and can not be eliminated from the next challenge. This immunity is not granted when the show gets closer to the end and only a few contestants are left.
The designers are guided by Tim Gunn, a fashion expert who always offers the most detailed constructive criticism to each of the designers. If they don't listen to Tim's advice and try to change an obvious flaw, that designer is usually the one that loses. If Tim likes the design, the designer can rest easy and know he or she has survived another fashion challenge.
The judges are always Heidi Klum, the ex super model, Nina Garcia, fashion editor of Elle magazine and Michael Kors, top American fashion designer. There is usually a guest judge for each episode that is connected to the challenge in some way.
It just amazes me how creative these designers are when they are faced with such constraints, like time and money. If I had 10 weeks I still couldn't sew anything that a person could wear, so seeing someone having only hours or at most 2 days to design and create a garment is amazing.
You never know who will be on the show with Heidi Klum either. Sarah Jessica Parker was on and wanted an outfit for her new clothing line. Last season Sasha Cohen, the figure skater, had the contestants design her an ice skating outfit. So fashion is covered in all its many forms.
The interactions among the designers is always interesting. Jack was forced to leave this week for medical reasons, and everyone was very upset. It was tough to see such a talented guy have to bow out so soon. Hopefully he gets invited back to Season 5.
This is a great hour of TV that lets you appreciate creativity and see how people interact with their fellow competitors and react to the challenges.
So tune in to Bravo TV on Wednesdays and see what is new with Project Runway.
