Within that 6 months, my car was involved in a minor accident. As I was close to a body shop I was comfortable using, I pulled into their lot. The agent I spoke with tried to convince me that I should let their body shop do the work. I managed to get them to approve the shop I chose.
According to the commercials, they make it easy for you to get your car back from them. This was not the case for me. When I have had insurance work done in the past, I picked the car up at the place where I had left it. This was not the case with Progressive. Their advertising makes it look like they will bring your car to you. This was also not the case. When they informed me my car was ready, I was told I had to drive to their location to get my car as they had taken my car from the body shop so that they could inspect it. I was not happy about their taking my car and not returning it, and they had no intention of returning it to the shop. They did not offer to make it easier for me to retreive my car, I had to find a friend to drive me to their location (which we had to find).
I dropped Progressive and re-instated my policy with Geico. Oh, and they charged me a fee for cancelling my policy - I called them on the day my policy expired, but since the Geico agent reinstated my policy a couple days before the Progressive policy expired, I was charged an early cancellation fee.
