I was a loyal paying customer with Progressive for about 10 years. The cost of my insurance never went down, only up over the years. I was never given any special discounts for never having received a ticket or getting into an accident. The monthly costs were not cheap but they were not high either- about middle ground. But I decided to stay with Progressive since they are an established reputable company. When I did eventually get into an auto accident that unfortunately was my fault, I saw a drastic increase in my monthly rates. The damages to the other persons vehicle totalled $300.00, however due to the rate increase over three years, I was penalized about $1200.00. When I asked the representative why I was being penalized so much, her response was, "You didn't have to report this to us. You could have paid it yourself." I understand that was true but she was very rude about it. I expected to see a decrease in my monthly costs after three years like I was told by the same rude representative, however it never happened. So ultimately I switched to another reputable insurance company where I now pay a significantly amount less and am very grateful for the refreshing change. I now have better customer service, and feel appreciated for my good driving history and my loyalty.
