Proctor Silex Vegetable Steamer/Rice Cooker is simply versatile!

The Proctor Silex Vegetable Steamer/Rice Cooker (Cool Touch Model C36507) is so much more than it appears to be at first glance.  When I received mine as a wedding gift approximately thirteen years ago, I thought it was a cheap joke.  I mean, really, it looked like it was constructed of 99% plastic.  How could it possibly be a useful, durable, versatile kitchen appliance?  Little did I know how absolutely integral it would be to my cooking life. When I bothered to read the manual, I discovered that this little hunk of plastic has many talents.  It can not just steam different types and amounts of rice (no-muss, no-fuss style, at that) but it could steam both fresh and frozen vegetables and seafood.  I could actually cook shrimp in this contraption if I felt the spirit move.  What really caught my attention after about a decade of not even bothering to explore the full extent of its functionality was that it could hard (or soft) boil eggs!  So that's what the funny indentations in the "vegetable bowl" were designed to fit! In all seriousness, I absolutely love the Proctor Silex Vegetable Steamer/Rice Cooker Model C36507.  Without it, I honestly wouldn't bother with cooking rice.  With this device, it's so simple.  I just measure & dump the water in the reservoir & "rice bowl" per the included instruction manual's directions, measure & dump the rice into the "rice bowl", set the rice bowl within the "vegetable bowl" within the steamer, top it with the cover, plug it in and flip the single, no-confusion-about-it switch on the front, see the light go on, and let it do its thing!  I do recommend placing the unit in a location where the steam rising from the top will have room to disperse and won't disturb any perishables. The steamer/cooker is relatively easy to clean.  The lid, rice bowl and vegetable bowl just need some soap, water and a sponge.  The cooker itself sometimes collects condensation, so it could use a wipe down with a paper towel.  If water remains in it for an extended period of time unattended, it may grow its own inner fur coat.  So, just make sure to dry it off before letting it sit in storage.  Otherwise, it isn't a bother at all.  Also, the fact that it is comprised mainly of plastic makes it quite light to move around and not as much of a worry as glass or ceramic would be if it gets bumped around a bit.  It's truly wonderful to have.  I consider it to be worth so much more than its price reflects!
