A great addition to any kitchen

My husband bought us this can opener after us always having issues with regular handheld can openers. It seemed like with regular can openers they would work well for a little while but after a few months they would become hard to turn or would just stop cutting into the can which was no good since the whole point of a can opener is to be able to open a can. Maybe I don't get out much, I don't know but I was so excited to have an electric can opener and this one does not disappoint! I love how quickly it opens the can, it also effectively opens the can leaving a smooth edge on the can its self, and it never tears the paper on the can which was always an issue for us with a regular can opener. Also love that I can use pretty much any size can on this electric can opener and I like how I don't have to be standing right with the can opener there has never been a worry that it wasn't going to be strong enough to hold on to the can it works every time. I seriously love this and honestly it is now the only can opener in my house!

The thought is nice but I don't really need it.

The Proctor Silex Power Opener Extra Tall Can Opener is very nice and I am sure I would use it more if I were not so used to opening cans by hand. I received the can opener as a Mothers Day gift and have used it a few times but I just can't seem to get into the habit of using it. To me it just seems easier to open cans the old fashion way by hand. Performance When I have used the Proctor Silex can opener it has always worked good for me. It opens cans without any trouble. Durability Since I have not used the Proctor Silex Power Opener to many times I can not say how the overall durability will be but I can say that of the times that I have used it I have had no problem at all and maybe I will get used to it and use it more. Design The design is good nothing fancy which is one thing that I do like about it. I am not a fancy person and so I like things that are not to fancy and just work and do what they are supposed to do.

I have been using this can opener everyday for at least 3 years. It opens with ease a can of tuna for my family's two cats. I hope it works well for years to come! I l joke that it has dual purpose of can opening and cat attracting as it does both very well. The blade has not rusted from the tuna juice. It is built very strong and has lasted long. Overall I really like this can opener it was a good deal.

You get what you pay for.

Do not be fooled by the low price. Half the time I needed to turn the can myself to get it opened Performance You have to keep an eye on it when opening a can - sometimes little metal shavings would fall into the food. Durability This product lasted 5 years before breaking. Our average use for this product was two to three times a week. Design I got the Black one - and it looked good and it is also easy to keep clean.

Not My Favorite, But Okay Despite a Few Irritations

Ever since our beloved electric can opener stopped working I have been on the look out for a replacement. So far, nothing has met our needs well enough. One of the considerations has been the Proctor Silex Power Opener for Extra Tall Cans. Although it is not as bad as some of those we tried, this opener still is not as solid as I would have liked it to be. It is about 7 inches high so that it opens larger cans more easily, if you can get it not to tip over for bigger cans, that is. Performance Cans do open pretty easily which is the purpose of the unit and I appreciate that. What I don't like is that the little mechanism that cuts the can open is housed in a small unit which is supposed to come off for easy cleaning. Well, it does come off easily, but almost every time I open a can which is annoying. It is not a huge PROBLEM, but it is just annoying. Durability Although this does not feel as solid as our previous can opener, it is better than some of them we have tried out. It worked okay, but not as stellar as I had hoped. The cans have to be put on the unit just right to get them to cut without a problem. That is not always a problem, but it does frustrate me occasionally. What is rather irritating more so is the cutting part coming off all of the time. I realize it is probably designed that way, but it still is an extra step I have to make to put it back on- and another part that the family can lose. Design I do like the cord storage in the back of the unit and although it has a knife sharpener too, it is not that great, so not something that was a selling point to me. This is not a BAD can opener, I just am not as fond of it as I was our older opener which seemed to be more solid and sturdy.

I have owned quite a few hand can openers by different manifactures and brands and somehow I always end up breaking down and getting our electric can opener out this can opener was a great investment since ours has lasted well over six years now and is still going, take in to consideration i do not use it daily so if you are going to be using it very frequently your may not last as long as our has but in general we use it three or four times a week. it is affordable and reliable, it is durable to since it has been dropped mutiple times and suffered no damage any of the times it fell. i think next time i am going to buy a hand opener i will reconsider and maybe just upgrade this to a newer model since it seems to be much better and last a heck of a lot longer.
