This year we switched from a gas grill to a charcoal grill. The decision for the change was based on taste. We feel food cooked over charcoal has more flavor.
We were introduced to Cowboy Charcoal by a neighbor. He told us it was the best, so we bought a bag not knowing what to really expect.
As soon as you open the bag, the difference is noticeable. There is no smell of chemicals. When you take a piece out of the bag, you can see the difference between the Cowboy Charcoal and the briquette type. The Cowboy looks like real wood.
Some companies have now added lighter fluid to make their product more convenient. It takes a long time for the igniter to burn off the coals, which means you are cooking your food over the chemicals used in the igniter. Also, these briquettes tend to produce more ash and burn at a lower heat.
The Cowboy Charcoals are hardwood. They are a natural product which means cooking over them will be safer for you. These hardwood charcoals burn hotter, longer and produce very little ash. If additional coals are needed they can be added to what is already burning. There is no need for additional igniter. As an added note, I use an electric starter so I don't use any igniter fluid at all.
When I use the Cowboy Charcoals I actually smell the food cooking. When I use the briquettes, I smell more smoke than food.
The end result using Cowboy Charcoal is better tasting food and better food for your health.
