Pride and Prejudice Review Summary
Everyone is in agreement that the film adaptation of Jane Austen's
Pride and Prejudice is the best version of the novel so far, and some even go a step further, claiming it's the
"best Jane Austen adaptation of all time." Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen star in this Oscar-nominated period piece about five sisters looking to marry to hold onto their family home. While Viewpoints reviewers and longtime fans of the
Pride and Prejudice story were taken aback at the casting of MacFadyen as Darcy, he soon grew on them as they watched "a beautiful tale of unexpected love" unfold. Movie lovers that enjoy period pieces by famous novelists might also enjoy
The Painted Veil.
character-lover, sucker for romantic comedies, a movie buff
I won't bother to write out the plot for this since it is such a well-known story, I'll just give my opinion of this particular movie. — Pride and Prejudice starring Kiera Knightly is a seductive, romantic film that will leave you sighing with desire and dreaming of love on the foggy moors of England. I know that when for me, when the movie ended all I wanted was for someone to call me, "Mrs. Darcy." The film is visually stunning with unique cinematography for a period piece. You see the dirt and grime of everyday life up close as well as enjoy the splendor and grace…

married, a pet owner, a busy person, Anglophile
I am one of the many people who have enjoyed Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and have enjoyed on-screen versions to varying degrees. This one is the best film version I have seen. A close-second would be the mini-series with Colin Firth shown on PBS. Keira Knightly was excellent. As was Donald Sutherland and the rest of the cast. At first I did not think Darcy was well-cast, but as the movie went on he grew on me. —
Excellent settings, period details like the farm animals wandering around the Bennet's household. —…

classics lover, a fan of clever plots, into movies that tell a great story
I have read Pride and Prejudice twice and seeing this movie brought the book to life. For the short length of the movie, they did a very good job of keeping to the story. It helps that they had an amazing story to work with. The costumes and sets were wonderful. I loved how it had a realistic feel. It wasn't all neat, clean and bright. The dancing was fun to watch. There is also many sweet details to catch, such as the way Darcy flexes his hand or the look in Darcy and Lizzy's eyes when they look at one another. — This is a movie that can be enjoyed by…

a movie buff, comfort's a must, but still cute
Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen were perfectly cast in this sumptously romantic and beautiful movie. Matthew MacFadyen actually made me forget Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. He played Mr. Darcy more edgy and brooding. I watch this dvd almost every day. You will love this movie directed by the genius Joe Wright. The music also adds so much to this movie. …

a movie buff, Every day computer user, married, a woman
I read the book long before I saw this movie and what a wonderful version of the movie! I was so smitten by it I bought it to watch again and again! I am not what you would call a chick flick lover so this is saying a lot about "Pride and Prejudice." — …

a movie buff
I was really impressed with how well this version brings the story together in a way that doesn't seem rushed or choppy. The story is classic, but I think the actors really make this version stand out. Kiera Knightley is a great actress, but I never imagined she'd pull of Lizzy so well. — —…
