Pride and Prejudice Review Summary

Everyone is in agreement that the film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the best version of the novel so far, and some even go a step further, claiming it's the "best Jane Austen adaptation of all time." Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen star in this Oscar-nominated period piece about five sisters looking to marry to hold onto their family home. While Viewpoints reviewers and longtime fans of the Pride and Prejudice story were taken aback at the casting of MacFadyen as Darcy, he soon grew on them as they watched "a beautiful tale of unexpected love" unfold. Movie lovers that enjoy period pieces by famous novelists might also enjoy The Painted Veil.

The Case

I knew that when I watched the latest version of Pride and Prejudice, every bit of it would be compared to my beloved A&E adaptation of the same story.  It was hard to imagine that a simple two-hour film would be able to stand up to a magnificent five-hour miniseries.  I was fully prepared...

I bought the movie and didn't fall in love with it as I did with the A & E version with Colin Firth, after watching this one I ran out and ordered the A & E version,  I still think the women's hairstyles would have looked better if they wore it up, but I am glad I bought both versions because I do love... review »

I won't bother to write out the plot for this since it is such a well-known story, I'll just give my opinion of this particular movie.

Pride and Prejudice starring Kiera Knightly is a seductive, romantic film that will leave you sighing with desire and dreaming of love on the foggy moors of England.  I know that when for me, when the movie ended all I wanted was for someone to call me, "Mrs. Darcy."  The film is visually stunning with unique cinematography for a period piece.  You see the dirt and grime of everyday life up close as well as enjoy the splendor and grace of the social gatherings...

I am one of the many people who have enjoyed Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and have enjoyed on-screen versions to varying degrees. This one is the best film version I have seen. A close-second would be the mini-series with Colin Firth shown on PBS. Keira Knightly was excellent. As was Donald Sutherland and the rest of the cast. At first I did not think Darcy was well-cast, but as the movie went on he grew on me.

Excellent settings, period details like the farm animals wandering around the Bennet's household.

This version of Pride and Prejudice is the best out there. The characters are perfectly suited to the actors, the are very real. The story keeps you interested to the very end, no matter how many times you watch it. The only bad thing about it is that it ends, and you wish it would go on! This movie is worth seeing, and not only once!

Pride and Prejudice.  The title alone sends shivers down the spines of high-school students everywhere.  By the 2005 movie premiere, memories of English class had left me skeptical.  Despite my love for the novel, there were already countless adaptations.  After dozing off during the 6-hour BBC miniseries, I did not think the world needed more of Mr. Darcy and his ruffled shirts.  However, I was pleasantly surprised by 2005's Pride and Prejudice.  The movie is a compact yet loyal version of the classic love story.

I have read Pride and Prejudice twice and seeing this movie brought the book to life.  For the short length of the movie, they did a very good job of keeping to the story.  It helps that they had an amazing story to work with. The costumes and sets were wonderful. I loved how it had a realistic feel.  It wasn't all neat, clean and bright. The dancing was fun to watch. There is also many sweet details to catch, such as the way Darcy flexes his hand or the look in Darcy and Lizzy's eyes when they look at one another.

This is a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages.  There is nothing that a...

This was from before any of this cast were runaway stars (with the exception of Sutherland who played a quieter part with much respect).  I loved the music, the landscapes, the costumes, the acting, everything.  While it has some slower parts they fit right into the period drama nicely.  The build and the twists along with the great acting carried me right along with it.  This is one of the romantic movies that remind you why there are so many romance books for sale on the market - to try to be as good as love story as this.

Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen were perfectly cast in this sumptously romantic and beautiful movie.  Matthew MacFadyen actually made me forget Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.  He played Mr. Darcy more edgy and brooding.  I watch this dvd almost every day.  You will love this movie directed by the genius Joe Wright.  The music also adds so much to this movie.

Pride and Prejudice is the best version of Pride and Prejudice to date!  Matthew and Keira have such chemistry together - they are so believeable as Elizabeth and Darcy.  Now whenever I read the book - I always picture Matthew and Keira as my Elizabeth and Darcy.  Very strong characters.  It leaves you wanting to know more of the story!

Pride and predjudice the movie is unlike the book in many scenes, but with the amount of time aloud there is a descent portrayal of the basic story. The cast, sets, and camera views help create a realistic portrayal of the 1800's. The movie isn't perhaps the best movie made as of late, but it is a fantasitc love story that is worth the watch.

I read the book long before I saw this movie and what a wonderful version of the movie! I  was so smitten by it I bought it to watch again and again! I am not what you would call a chick flick lover so this is saying a lot about "Pride and Prejudice."

the first time I watched this movie I was so astounded as to how much close attention to detail they had given, and as always Keira Knightley is amazing in the movie.
