The Case

Pride and Prejudice has been my favorite classic since the very first time I read it.  I had never seen a film adaptation until the A&E miniseries, and I must admit, I braced myself for disappointment.  Film adaptations rarely do justice to the novels they are based upon.  Thankfully, that was not the case with Pride and Prejudice.  I enjoy watching the movie just as much, if not more so, than I enjoy rereading the book!

The Good

This miniseries is the most faithful adaptation of a novel that I have ever seen on screen.  It's nearly word for word!  The entire book, almost every scene,...

I had never heard of Pride & Prejudice before I studied abroad in Lancaster, England during my college years.  One weekend when my English friends went home and left me alone on campus, they gave me the 2 VHS tapes that held the 4-hour BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel.  The two days during which I watched this BBC mini-series were magical!

Basically, the BBC produced an extremely faithful adaptaion of Pride & Prejudice.  If anything, the story has been enhanced by the masterful casting and soundtrack.  Every minute of the four hours of this mini-series is interesting, engaging, and just...

I have watched several versions of Pride and Prejudice.  This version is by far my favorite!  This is the only version I would recommend to my firends and family! I have watched it several times. This is the only version I have loved so much I have purchased my own copy of it. I can watch it any time I am in the mood for the "best chick flick ever". Although the version with Kiera Knightly is shorter and may be a better option for those with short attention spans... this version of Pride and Prejudice is the only version I've seen that really does the book ample justice.  A book fo the caliber... read full review »

I own over 700 movies and this is by far my favorite movie ever.  Jane Austin is a surpurb author and after seeing this movie I went one to see all her others...Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion.  These movies are filmed in the most beautiful locations in England.  In fact, after I watched this movie I took a trip to England and saw the same beauty.  This is a wholesome story that is perfect for teenage girls to watch as well.  No need to send the kids to be early or fast-forward any parts.  This is a long movie and the only think I can say about that is that I wish it was longer. ... read full review »

I love this movie!  I am such a fan of Jane Austin, and this is so close to the book!  I have seen this too many times to count!  I watch it while I'm doing crafts or folding laundry or whatever.  It is long, but it's worth it to get that quality of entertainment!  I fall in love with the characters and get caught up in the story every time I watch it.

Lizzy is great, believable, witty, strong.  Mr Darcy is handsome, so easy to hate at first, and then you fall in love!  I recommend this strongly to anyone who loves romance!

This is my favorite mini-series.  There is not a dull moment in this series.  The setting is beautiful, the characters rich and diverse, the dialogue witty and the music adds a merriment to this great drama.  Mr. Darcy captures your heart with a mere glance and Lizzy adds intelligence and liveliness.

I think all the actors did a wonderful job, but Colin Firth clearly steals the show.  He IS Mr. Darcy!  I never tire of watching this series.  Highly recommended!

The BBC mini series is the best adaptation yet of Jane Austens "Pride and Prejudice". The script is so close to the book that nothing is lost in this delightful 5 hour miniseries. If you have a problem with the English from the time, read the book first slowly, then watch the mini series to better follow the dialogue. The central character 'Elizabeth' is smart, stuborn and sweet all in one and Mr Darcy's mystery and character draw you in to a very interesting love story.

The DVD version of the TV mini series of Pride and Prejudice is hands down the best book to screen reinactment I've ever seen. All the major scenes are present and most of the dialogue are direct quotes from the book. The cast also helps in keeping true to the book with their acting and likeness to character descriptions. This is one of my favorites, and I don't usually like love stories!
