Pride and Prejudice (Mini-Series)  —

I had never heard of Pride & Prejudice before I studied abroad in Lancaster, England during my college years.  One weekend when my English friends went home and left me alone on campus, they gave me the 2 VHS tapes that held the 4-hour BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel.  The two days during which I watched this BBC mini-series were magical!

Basically, the BBC produced an extremely faithful adaptaion of Pride & Prejudice.  If anything, the story has been enhanced by the masterful casting and soundtrack.  Every minute of the four hours of this mini-series is interesting, engaging, and just delightful.  Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth absolutely nail the characters of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.  I also have to give credit to the actors who portray Mrs. Bennet, Mr. Bennet, Caroline Bingley, and Lydia.  I won't go on and on about the scenes, the scenery, the dialogue, etc.  Suffice to say that the BBC did an extraordinary job with their adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.

If I were to be stranded on a desert island and could only bring one movie with me, I'd select the BBC Pride & Prejudice Mini-Series.  The acting is superb, the plot is fascinating, and, overall, it is the best Pride and Prejudice adaptation that I've ever seen.  You do have to commit four hours to watch it, but I promise that it is well worth the investment of your time! Highly recommended!

This is the kind of movie that's worth the four hour investment. I enjoy watching it unfold in installments, and savor every romantic minute! :)
