Prevacid SoluTab (lansoprazole) —

My seven year old son had something wrong with him, and we didn't know what it was.  He had begun vomiting during the night, and complaining of stomach pain.  But he would be fine by morning. He would be extremely pale during the time he felt ill, but would be completely fine once the episode was over.  At first I thought it was a virus, or something he ate, but it began happening more and more frequently.  Concerned, I took him to his Pediatrician.

I was very surprised when the diagnosis came back Acid Reflux.  My son is only seven years old, and I wasn't even aware children could have Acid Reflux.  His doctor recommended Prevacid SoluTabs.  My husband has taken original Prevacid in the past, and it worked great for him, but I had never heard of Solu Tabs. The medication is available through prescription only, and my portion of the amount due (WITH health insurance) was $ 50.00.  Pretty pricey, but I knew if it would work for my son like it did for my husband, it would be worth every cent.

Prevacid Solu Tabs are taken right before bedtime.  The pill is Strawberry flavored, and it dissolves right on the tongue.  My sons despises the taste of all medicine, however, he likes the taste of this.  (Thank Goodness)  Being seven years old, he is unable to swallow pills.  Believe me, we've tried.  So, I was very grateful that this medication was available in a form he could take.

I am very relieved that this medicine works for him.  Since he's been taking the medication, he hasn't had one single episode of vomiting or stomach pain.  It's such a relief.  He can't rely on just the medicine though.  We also have to watch his diet and avoid anything spicy, fatty, fried, or anything that contains caffeine.  Basically, he's on an "Old Man" diet.  Poor baby.  Now that we have his Reflux under control, I do allow him to have an occasional treat and he hasn't had any negative reaction to it.  As long as we remember to give him his medicine each and every night, he seems to be fine.

If you have a child, or someone else in your family that cannot swallow pills, that suffers from Acid Reflux, I would HIGHLY recommend this medication.  It has made such a difference in my son's overall health.  And it's so simple to give to him.  There's no measuring, no pills to cut in half, just an easy dose that he can take himself.  And best of all, it has got his Acid Reflux completely under control.

Oh that sounds so pitiful for a young child. I'm glad you were able to get to the bottom of that. Since he is young there is a chance that he could outgrow or naturally adapt to various foods and overcome the acid reflux. I think acid reflux is very common in children but like you, we tend to overlook it believing that can't be what is wrong with them. $50 is still so steep for a medicine but glad it is working. ~Gigi
