Reliable salad shooter

4

I have been using the Presto SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder for about 5 months now and it's truly a remarkable machine. This device does an excellent job of cutting up potatoes in nice small even circles, which I turn into chips. I also use this slicer to cut up carrots, grate cheese, and chocolate. I find that grating chocolate can go south very quickly. If I use too much chocolate the slicer will begin to heat up very quickly causing the grating process to become a hot mess. Grating cheese with this device requires very little effort. I can easily go through a block of cheese in under a minute with the shredder. The only downside I have encountered with this device is the cleaning process. If I clean out the different attachments right after using it can be easy, but if I let them sit for longer than 10 minutes it becomes a time consuming task. I have to soap up each attachment and blast them with hot water until clean. I definitely would recommend the Presto SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder.

Presto SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder

I had been having difficulty with manual dexterity for some time and knew it was time to look into different options for preparing fruits and vegetables. I found this Presto SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder at the store on an after Christmas sale special, so I bought it. It was a great investment. I love all the different blade attachments. This slicer/shredder gives me many more options when slicing fruits and vegetables that allow me to make up very attractive trays. I am able to shred/slice cheese without worrying about the cheese breaking. Each blade cup is very easy to clean with some warm soapy water. I love the versatility of this device. It is sturdy yet lightweight. The handle is large enough but well balanced and I find it easy to use despite some loss of dexterity. it would be a great item to purchase for someone with physical challenges to give them more independence in the kitchen.

Really like this quick and easy to use Large Mouth Salad Shooter

5

Many years ago I had the small Salad Shooter which I loved. I used it until I wore it out! Now, I have the larger model which is wonderful. I bought it mostly to grate cheese with because I just couldn't find anything that would do a decent job. My Salad shooter came with all the extra attachments which are very nice to have for variety. I really like being able to quickly slice cucumbers, zuchinni, and potatoes precisely without having to drag out the food processor especially if I only need a small amount. The blades pop into the base with just a twist of the lock ring with little effort at all. My only real complaint is storing all the pieces to it. I do find that it does leave a sliver of cheese stuck to the inside of the chute that doesn't grind up. But, for veggies, you can't ask for a better working gadget. The large Salad Shooter has a nice wide mouth on it so slicing potatoes is a snap. You can stack pieces in it or you can lay pieces in it depending on the size slices you need. I don't have to cut the potatoes in half to get them to fit. It also grates up cabbage for slaw very nicely as well as the carrots too. I do wish it came with a storage case especially with all the attachments. I think I have 6 or 8 separate cones to it, plus an extra lock ring. I find the attachments very easy to clean when put in hot soapy water or the top shelf of the dishwasher. I've never seen the blades rust and they seem to always be sharp. I gave the power rating a 9 because it does lug down a little when cutting carrots and potatoes; but less dense veggies go through it without a grumble!

The all-in-one slicer, shredder kitchen helper delight.

I have grated and sliced so many vegetables, fruits, and cheeses, it's amazing! I use this for everyday cooking as well as preparing large amounts of produce for canning during fall harvest. Power It does well with so many items of produce. I believe the only time I have had an jam-up is when the item was not as fresh and firm as it should be. Safety Sometimes the mechanisms don't lock as firmly together as they should. I have had them come apart a few times while running it. It was probably due to lack of making sure all was in place correctly, but either way, it should not come a part that simply. Ease of Assembly Very easy to assemble and disassemble to change out the desired cone. My kids have been using this to help me do many kitchen projects for a few years now. Ease of Cleaning There are a few grooves that some small particles stick in, in the feed shoot or around the edge of the cones. The ones like raw potatoes, apples, or even carrots that leave stains cause some problems here. Durability I have had to replace the regular shredding cone once because we have used it so much. I now am going to have to replace the feed shoot mechanism because the pegs that hold the securing ring have worn right off.

Much better then a food processor!

I LOVE my salad shooter!  I used to have a brand new Kitchenaid food processor, but never used it!  I use this several times a week!  It is much more portable - I can grate or chop right into the bowl on any part of my countertop!  With the food processor, I was limited to the bowl capacity of the machine - with the salad shooter, I have no such limitations - I can use a nice big bowl, or spread it out among different bowls.  The Salad Shooter is much smaller and weights a lot less then a traditional food processor, and is much easier to manage.  I actually splurged for the professional version, which I can stick a nice 8oz. block of cheese in the hopper without cutting it first - it literally takes seconds to shread.  I also use this constantly to make coleslaw, or shread carrots in meatloaf or salads.  I love using it for onions and potatoes to make au gratin potato dishes.  I have had this many years, and it still is going strong - the durability is amazing.  I would not want to go without it!

Followed in My Moms Footsteps

My mom owned one of this when I was younger, so I was very excited to buy one of my own. It works well but it can be knocked out of it's groove so easily, that you need to be careful when using it. Ease of Assembly Like I stated before, it pops out of groove a few times if you're not careful. I think that is just a flaw with the product and is something that even previous versions had. Ease of Cleaning I pop mine in the dishwasher for a quick clean. The only food that it hard to clean is cheese, but that it typical. Durability Not sure how long this one is going to last. The one my mother had when I was younger seemed to be made better as she is still using it to this day. Of course companies don't make products like they use to though.

Cuts down on prep work. Easy to put together and use.

I have an older model of the presto salad shooter. It seems to overheat after using for awhile but I would assume that would be a problem in the newer models. Generally I use mine in order to shred carrots and onion for shepherds pie. Which cuts prep time significantly. The capacity is fairly good. I am able to fill an entire carrot in at a time if it is cut in half and placed in the unit properly. Bits of food do get stuff to the blades when you are using it but it easy to clean up. The white color of the unit makes it susceptible to stains but as long as you clean it properly you do not have to worry about the discoloration because it will not be visible.

Family favorite

My mom had one of these when I was little and she let us use it to shred cheese and "help cook." So of course when I moved out, I had to have one. I use it all the time and I am excited to let my kids help cook when they are old enough. It shreds and slices very quickly and makes putting together a salad super quick and easy. I hate buying the pre-shredded cheese since it basically has sawdust in it to keep it from clumping, so this makes shredding my own cheese really easy and I'm not tempted to buy the stuff with sawdust in it. Cleaning the salad shooter can sometimes be aggravating since I don't have a dishwasher, but my mom throws hers in the dishwasher and it is really easy. Power Fine with me. Safety Don't know that you could injure yourself unless you stuck your finger in it while it was going. Ease of Assembly Simple enough. Ease of Cleaning Hand washing sucks. Durability My mom had hers forever.

Perfect in every way!

I have two food processors, and this one is my absolute favorite! It is small enough to keep in a drawer, right at hand, and pull out for small jobs as well as large ones. I love that it has no receptacle, so you don't have to fill and dump, fill and dump, when processing large quantities of food. You can just grate potatoes right into the pan, or carrots right into the bowl. I have eight children, and I cook three meals a day, every day, pretty much, so I know good quality kitchen tools! I have owned mine for at least six years, and my granny has had hers for probably 20 or more. I really love this tool! I use it far more often than my large cuisinart food processor!

a big hype and not much when you buy it

I would not recommend this product because it soes not work like they say it should this product has been around for years and has never worked the way that they clame that it is suppose to. My mother tried this and did not even like it. Power it is nothing to write home about it is o.k but it could be alot better on vegetables etc. Safety it is like any other appliance i would not recommend that children handle it because of all of the sharp blades without supervision. Ease of Assembly it is not that easy to use and i was hoping for alot better and was excieted when i bought it. Ease of Cleaning it is average Durability i was not that impressed as a whole on this product.i was so disappoined that i did not use it that much.
