I went to the Cardiologist today and didn't really feel like doing much for dinner tonight so I stopped and got some soup and a griddle....lol Yeah I am very spontaneous at times. Anyway I stopped at Walmart and picked up this Presto Cool Touch Griddle for 19.95.

Presto Cool Touch

We have one but it has a thin heating element and is about 8 years old and just doesn't do good at all. The old hot in one spot and not in most of the rest of the thing! I looked at the display model for this one and it has a wide element tunnel and is all molded as one piece and just seemed it would be much more efficient with a more even heat distribution.

I got 6 grilled cheese ready and set it to 325 degrees and let it heat for about 8 minutes while I got the tomato soup in the pot and stirred up. I placed all 6 on the griddle and had room to spare and sure enough they were all ready to flip in about 5 minutes. Once flipped they were all a nice golden brown color another 4 minutes and they were done to perfection.

The griddle is all aluminum with a 1 1/2" outer ring of plastic, thus the name cool touch. On the front of the griddle about an inch from the edge is a hole that dumps into a removable grease catcher, pretty neat and very convenient as well. The cord on the heat control is short and won't get in the way while cooking on this griddle. The surface is a non-stick and very easy to clean. Just pull the heat unit out and either wash in the sink or put it on the top rack of your dishwasher.

This is the smaller of the Presto Griddles but I could easily put 8 grilled cheese sandwiches on it and I know they would cook all at about the same time, which with four in the house would be perfect. The unit has a built in tilt toward the front and the grease trap and was very well thought out and executed in the manufacture of this little grill.

Bottom Line

I feel I made an excellent buy for $19.95 and it will serve us well for grilled cheese, pancakes and even sausage and bacon. It was an easy cleanup after dinner and fits perfect with the pots and pans under the counter. A great find and I am happy I made the choice to purchase this.

I love mine... never thought to make grilled cheese on it (my fav). Instead of taking out two pans. I will use my griddle.
