This is one of my favorite health reference books. What I like about it is that you can look up any aliment (everything from cancer to irritable bowel syndrome) and it gives you a quick summary of alternatives remedies. For example, it highlights what foods trigger or aggregavate your problems, which provide healing properties as well as herbal and natural remedies. I love the idea of healing yourself simply through food.
If you are averse to medicines or simply want a more natural approach to healing, this is a great resource for you!
Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing by James and Phyllis Balch is one of the best drug free reference books around. Each disease or physical condition it describes is covered in all aspects as if you were reading the Mayo-Clinic site. The book describes the condition and what causes it in detail. It differs from the Mayo site in as much as it gives detailed recomendations for drug free healing. An example is the commom cold: the book describes what a cold is and how our bodies get colds.
