This is one of my favorite health reference books. What I like about it is that you can look up any aliment (everything from cancer to irritable bowel syndrome) and it gives you a quick summary of alternatives remedies. For example, it highlights what foods trigger or aggregavate your problems, which provide healing properties as well as herbal and natural remedies. I love the idea of healing yourself simply through food.

If you are averse to medicines or simply want a more natural approach to healing, this is a great resource for you!

Of all my many natural health reference books, this is the one that I reach for the most often. An earlier edition of this book was used as one of my textbooks in naturopathic school. A wide variety of health conditions are explained and natural treatment recommendations are given for each. Diets and other natural treatments are also discussed. The Balch's also have other terrific books on herbal remedies and diets.

I recieved Prescription for Nutritional Healing about six years ago as a promotional book from a health store. I had purchased many smaller books on natural healing, and nutritional books in the past; But I had never come across any other book that is so precise and informative about any ailment and how to naturally treat it, as Prescription for Nutritional Healing.
Natural remedies is a very important part of my natural food and supplement regimine. I don't favor synthetic drugs at all, not even an aspirin if I can avoid it. So this book has been a treasure chest of information  to me; it has...

I purchased this book used and I have never been disappointed that I picked it up.  It is usually the most helpful book when looking for ideas on easing pain and discomfort of ilness or injury.  I like the fact that it lists both food and nutritional supplements to help with a disorder.  It is my most valued medical reference book on the shelf.

Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing by James and Phyllis Balch is one of the best drug free reference books around. Each disease or physical condition it describes is covered in all aspects as if you were reading the Mayo-Clinic site. The book describes the condition and what causes it in detail. It differs from the Mayo site in as much as it gives detailed recomendations for drug free healing. An example is the commom cold: the book describes what a cold is and how our bodies get colds. It then lists all the essential nutrients you should take if you have a cold. Next there is a list of impostant...

This book is an incredible reference!  A clerk at the health food store recommended it to me when I was looking for a specific homeopathic remedy for my son's fever.  It turned out that they did not have the remedy in stock that I was looking for, but learned sooooo many new options from this book.  Every ailment is easy to find and has great details on symptoms, possible causes, traditional treatments, supplements, foods, homeopathic remedies, herbs, essential oils, etc.  It was particularly helpful with suggestions for motion sickness when we went on a cruise this summer.  I was not looking... review »
