When my little, itty, bitty Golden Retriever came home I thought maybe he will stay this way. He was so small, cute and cuddly. Boy was I wrong!!! A few months later he's 70+ pounds and dragging me down the street!
I worked very hard to train him. In the house or the yard he responded to hand commands only. I didn't have to say a word. It was great! However, when I took him out on the street for a walk, my properly trained little gentleman turned into a tugging, leash chewing mad-dog! I tried and tried to get more control over him on the street; to no avail.
He was not going to beat...
read full review »The rescue I volunteer with and m local dog shelter USE and RECOMMEND Gentle Leaders. I have always been impressed with ALL Premier products. They are humane , readily available and somewhat easy to use.
The Gentle Leader does require proper fitting. Your dog trainer, vet or vet tech, or maybe even a sales associate at the store should be able to help ensure this. Their is a training pamphlet and DVD in most packages to help the owner and dog become accustom to the feel of something around their nose.
My service dog uses one when she's working.
NO IT'S NOT A MUZZLE. The dogs can...
read full review »Purchasing the gentle leader for my golden retriever was the best thing I ever did for her. I tried for several months to train her on a leash from the time I got her at 10 weeks. She was much stronger than me when she was just a few months old and it become impossible to leash-walk her. We have the medium size and my dog is right at the max pounds for it, about 60 lbs.
I went to the pet store to purchase a pinch collar but was discouraged from doing so by two of the employees. Instead, they recommended the gentle leader and I am so happy I took their advice. The gentle leader is better than a...
read full review »The Gentle Leader is the most awesome thing since sliced bread for your strong willed or unruly dog. It goes around your dogs neck and nose to help control him by his head rather than chest-much like a halter does for a horse. It is NOT a muzzle...it does not stop your dog from breathing, drinking, eating, biting, etc. What it does do is simply turn your dogs head to the side if he tries to pull you. It requires little strength on the part of the owner to control a 150 pound dog. It is easy to use properly and will not harm your dog, unlike a choke chain (which can cause a collapsed trachea)...
read full review »My dog is very hyper and pulls while walking, and ends up choking himself and gagging if I walk him with a traditional collar and leash. When I use the gentle leader, he is a completely different dog.
The only downside is that he does not like wearing the gentle leader and if he has an opportunity to get a hold of it, he chews it up. They are not cheap, so this can get quite expensive after a while. They should consider making one out of some type of material that would be more difficult for him to destroy!
This product does require some getting used to in order to make sure it is...
read full review »Our Basset Hound puppy (6 months) is so difficult to walk with just a collar. This gentle leader helps her to focus on walking, not sniffing everything around her and jerking me around. The only problem is that she will sometimes stop dead in her tracks and lay down, rubbing her nose with her paw to try to get it off. She doesn't like it much, but I sure do!
The premier gentle leader is awesome!! Some peple alo know it as a 'Halti". I own a very strong Pitt Bull. I would not be able to walk her with ease if i didn't use the gentle leader. The collar goes over the dogs nose and clips around thier neck like any other collar would. If the dog starts to pull their nose and head are pulled gently to the side and back slightly. It does not hurt or harm the dog in any way. Dogs don't like this feeling and quickly learn to not pull when on walks. The only problem I ever had with it was at the beach. My dog loves to run into the waves at the ocean. I had her...
