Works for labs.

4

I have a four year old 70 lb black lab who is strong and stocky. I did my research on what leader/harness to use to prevent him from pulling me. He is too strong for me to keep in line with a traditional leash, and if he sees a squirrel, forget about it. After reading positive reviews of the Premier Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness, I decided to give it a try. I had already tried a traditional harness with the leash attached to the back, and it didn't work. Apparently that type of harness actually encourages some dogs to pull more (which is why they are used with dogsleds). The Premier Gentle Leader is designed with the clip for the leash in front so that you are able to pull the dog back from the strongest part of their body, the chest. I have found this to be the key with my lab. At first the leader felt awkward to use, and some people would tell me I had it on wrong because they thought harnesses should be attached at the back. It just took some getting used to. It has been a lifesaver.

Dog Training equipment to help with a severe leash Puller.

5

I have been training dogs for years. Many products you try are hard to adjust and the dog does not adjust well. This piece of equipment is wonderful it auto redirects them when they try to pull and puts you in more control. It is easy to put on and they react instantly. It does not cause the dog any pain like choke chains do. Choke chains can cause your dog a lot of pain and discomfort not to mention the can cause damage to a dogs throught. Also small dogs with chains are at risk for other medical problems when using chains. With this gentle leader you don't have to worry about any of that. You do not have to be a profesional dog trainer in order to teach your dog to walk correctly. The easy walker a similiar product can turn into a tug of war game with most dogs. This one I also find to be very durable. We all know how puppies love to chew on everything. It is comfortable enough to have on for long periods of time.

The only way we can walk our two Great Danes!

4

We have two Great Danes, our female is around 95 pounds and our male is over 150! I'm on the smaller side and even if I wasn't there is no way I could walk even one with just a regular leash and collar. We also tried choke (chain) collars and leashes and they still took both myself and my husband for a wile ride. We were afraid they drag us or themselves into traffic before we could get them trained. My mother in law recommended the gentle leader and it has been a lifesaver. Its truly amazing the difference it makes. They are no longer able to drag us along and its enabled us to take walks with them. The one downside is that it takes a bit of time to adjust and get a good fit but once you do its quick and easy. We just make sure to differentiate which harness belongs to which dog so there is no readjusting necessary. A great gentle way to walk an over eager or larger dog safely!

Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness keeps my dog on the sidewalk!

4

Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness (for large dogs) was the only tool that kept my 75 lb lab on the sidewalk. He usually gets too excited and pulls hard on his walks. I cannot control him. I have tried choking collars and it does not work. He ends up just tugging so hard (because he doesn't feel pain) until he is gasping for breath and his eyes are bloodshot. I bought this product hoping it would be used as a tool to help me train my dog to heel during walks. He is not perfect, but he is improving. This product helps guide him in a way that does not choke him or make him miserable. It leads from the chest so that he is comfortable. Be sure to read the instructions very carefully before situating this device onto your pet. Be careful about where each of the straps go. Many users misuse these types of products and their dogs suffer anyway from being tugged by their breast bone. My dog and I enjoy walks much more now since we bought this tool.

A Good Collar Alternative

4

I have a black lab that walked like a dream but had issues with pulling when other people or dogs came around. The Gentle Leader was recommended to me by a neighbor and it has worked pretty well for us. If used correctly, the Gentle Leader controls the dog's head and takes the power away from their legs. Dogs can only really put full power into one direction, forward. A collar sits on their neck and shoulders and it's very easy for the dog to resist and pull. The leader's point of leverage is under the chin. When the dog pulls, his head has to turn and that bends his spine, negating all of his pulling power. One important note is the the leader must be used properly. It has to fit properly, which can be confusing at first. The directions don't tell you, but it will slide and slip a little on the dog's head. If you keep the leash short and the leader on correctly, the dog should walk with his head up and not pull against you. It has not taught my dog to stop trying to pull at the sight of other dogs but it has made it a lot easier to stop.

Gentle Leader has saved many shelter dogs!

5

I do work for animal shelters and am a softie for big dogs - especially the labbie types.  As you might imagine, a large dog who is locked in a kennel 23.5 hours a day can be very difficult to manage on the short walk they get each day.  I remember when the Gentle Leader head harness first came out and we all loved them so much, but this is an even better product because so many dogs do not like having the harness on their heads.  This product does the same thing with giving the walker more control of the dog, but without the stress that the head harness can cause, especially for very frightened shelter dogs.  We frequently adopt the dogs out with their gentle leaders so the families who adopt them can start off on the right "paw" with the equipment they need to be success dog parents.  We also keep the dogs harnesses in ziplocs outside their cages, so all of our volunteers can use them and remember where they are and they are already sized and fitted to that specific dog.

Gentle Leader is great for large dogs.

This is a great invention.  We have a very large dog, 100lb, and he is very strong.  It's easy for him to drag us behind him like a rag doll.  We were clued into the Genlte Leader Headcolor but forgot it while on vacation so tried the Harness.  The harness works great but it requires a little bit more muscle than the head collar.  The idea is that when you have the collar on, as the dog tries to pull you then he is forced to turn around due to the harness.  The head collar is eaiser due to the fact that you only have to force his head around, whereas the harness at the chest does require you to use some force to pull his chest to a stop, but it is much better than a normal collar that will choke him and he still pulls anyway.  I would really receommend the Head collar for larger dogs and probably the chest harness for smaller dogs.  It is a gentle and useful tool for obedience.  The head collar does look a bit like a muzzle, but it is not and seems to fit the dog very comfortably.

This is the only way I can walk my dog

5

I purchased this product when my American Bulldog/Mastiff mix was about 5 months old.  Even back then, he was a terrible walker - a puller to the extreme.  He's very easily excited, and wants to stop and smell every single thing when we walk.  Plus he crosses in front of me and pulls in every direction.  This harness has made a world of difference.  It clasps in the front, so if they begin to pull, it throws them off balance so they don't have they're full strength.  I consider this product a  must have!  After my dog ate the first one (my fault for leaving it out), I immediately purchased a new one, and then another in a larger size when he grew to his full 90 pounds.  This harness allows me to have relaxing walks with my dog.  It also gives me the confidence that I have full control over him.  I would definitely recomend the gentle leader easy harness to anyone that has a large dog and wants some extra control, or anyone that has a dog that pulls or tugs relentlessly.

great for training

my dog has had this harness for awhile now, and whenever he relapses in the leash pulling area, we pull this out. it really does wonders because what it does is that, when your dog pulls forward, it snaps them back. That is because the leash is actually hooked to teh front of the harness, in front of the dog. It works every single time. Now, I do have some cons for this product: 1. I see people putting them on incorrectly all the time. people do not understand that the single colored side goes under the belly, ive seen some of them across the shoulders. The directions included with the product need some work. Also, this product does typicall work TOO well with a short legged dog. i have a corgi, and sometimes he has managed to get loose from it.  and that drives me to my third point, the leash comes loose on its own, no matter how hard I tighten it. The cons outweigh the pros, but the product does work when its tightly fitted and with a longer-legged dog.
