When I was in elementary school I had a pen pal from Australia. She was actually a Vietnamese girl about my age whose family had fled the country during the war and made their home in Australia, but, I digress....
One thing we exchanged, besides letters, were postcards and pictures. I still have those today, though I have long since lost contact with my friend. Today, I came across this site and immediately signed up.
I haven't actually got to do it yet, since it's almost 2am where I am, and it's Sunday (no mail), but, I got the idea of what happens.

If you like travel, learning about other cultures, seeing unique stamps, or collecting postcards, postcrossing is a great hobby for you!
I've been on the site for a few months, and I have gotten postcards from many different countries, and all I had to do was send postcards out to other countries.
If you are in the USA, postcrossing is cheap; an international stamp only costs you 94 cents, plus, in many places you can get postcards fairly economically. The site even supports a green movement if you're worried about the effect such a paper-filled hobby will have on the environment.
