Incredible Hotel on a beautiful street in Rome

The Portrait Suites in Rome feels more like a private residence than it does a hotel. That's because it is small (it only has 14 rooms), and sits on top of the Ferragamo store on Rome's trendiest shopping street, just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps. It is housed in a former palazzo, and does not have a lobby...just an open room where the concierge and a few other hotel workers sit.

We were lucky enough to be some of the first guests to stay at the hotel in July 2006 when it opened, and it did not disappoint. ...

First a bit of background

WHILE MANY OF OUR FRIENDS ARE OPTING FOR RELAXING VACATIONS ON LUXURIOUS CRUISE SHIPS, MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE  OPTED TO CONTINUE OUR  INDEPENDENT TRAVEL  - HIKING , BIKING, RAFTING, OR BOATING IN REMOTE CORNERS OF THE GLOBE. WE ARE NOT YOUR TYPICAL BACK -PACKERS  .WE PLAN OUR TRIPS TO  ACCOMMODATE OUR TASTE FOR LUXURIOUS DIGS AND FOOD TO MATCH. WE ARE SELF ORDAINED "FOODIES" AND GENERALLY IMMERSE OURSELVES IN THE CULINARY DELIGHTS OF  EVERY LOCALE.

WE HAVE GONE ON BICYCLE TRIPS TO CHINA, VIETNAM, AND THE WINE COUNTRY IN FRANCE- NURTURED AND PAMPERED BY THE INCOMPARABLE ...
