Poodles Dog Breed —
I adopted Jackson, a miniature sized poodle about 7 years ago from a rescue shelter in Knoxville, TN. He was the outcast of a puppy mill. The owner decided he didn't want him because he "marked" everywhere. I knew when I got him at ~11 months old that he should be able to be housebroken if he were only neutered. With the program, the adoption fee paid for his neutering and immunizations. I was able to work with him for about 1 week and he was completely housebroken. He bonded with me instantly and has been such a fantastic companion. I really was glad to get him because he had lost so much weight while waiting to be adopted and was down to 14 pounds. He lived in a smaLl cage, where he paced back and forth incessantly. Today he's a healthy 26 pounds and is spunky, loyal, sweet and loving. He knows so many words and seems to practically be able to understand our thoughts! I've seen some standard poodles out in town with their owners and they seem incredibly intelligent as well. They are amazing pets and great companions for people who love the convenience of a smaller dog that doesn't shed. His size, vs. toy or standard eats less than a larger breed and so the biggest expense you have is grooming, which I generally must have done about 4-5 times per year. Jackson is very happy and seems thankful to be in our home. I enjoy looking into the bright shining eyes of my faithful companion.
