The Polk Audio Montor 40 speakers can be found at a bargain hunter's price online through several retailers. Initially the Polk Monitor line was established for accuracy and high performance and these speakers definitely deliver on that level with crisp highs, solid mids and strong punchy low frequency response. The speakers look great with or without grills and can complement a variety of different home theater setups to deliver the complete surround sound experience. Alone the Monitor40s are a substantial value, together with other matching Polk Monitor speakers, they constitute a value surround sound system that is hard to beat for the money. Take it from the plethora of reviews, these speakers are a winner and worth a listen.

I purchased 2 sets of 2 of these speakers (4 total) to round out my 7.1 speaker system.  These were used for my rear speakers, even they they are advertised as "Main" speakers.  I don't think they would be full enough to perform in a home theater environment as the main speakers.  Perhaps as stero speakers they would be acceptable.  I was happy with the amount of sound that they put out.  Surround speakers aren't required to play the same frequencies the fronts/center speakers are, so the fact that they have 2 5 1/4" drivers and a tweeter is plenty acceptable, and the volume level works well with the monitor 70 and CS2 speakers I purchased to go along with these.  The finish is somewhat cheap, but I wouldn't necessarily expect real wood speakers at this price.  They are made out of MDF, so they are somewhat heavy, but much better than cheap particle board.  Overall, these are very good speakers that I would recommend to others.
