First let me tell you that I am from a generation that saw the first T.V.s that came in a mahogany cabinet, with a small round screen, the picture was snowy, needless to say black and white and limited to about three programs, one of them being Roy Rogers and his favorite horse Trigger, and the ever famous "As the world turns". Technology to me has taken so many giant leaps through the years that I am at times hesitant to just go out and buy the next new thing, when I first saw the LCD screens on computer games I thought that there was no way that this could ever be brought to the quality necessary for the television viewing public. It seemed that it was limited to toys and such, but it would never make it to the scrutiny of the every critical viewing eye of the television conisuer. How wrong I was, and I am truthful when I say that I limit my admissions to being wrong to a handful of times, so this review does carry some conviction behind it. When my wife and I first decided to replace our old faithful tube type television due to an electrical storm that jumped across all of our surge protectors and literally destroyed every thing electrical including our refrigerator,(it was so strange to open our freezing compartment and find our meats crispy fried), we were in a quandary because not only did we have to replace our television but most of our electrical equipment so money was included in our decision. Turns out the guarantee on the surge protectors requires a lawyers knowledge and expertise to get any satisfaction so we quickly decided to just replace what we had, and try to make the best choices we could. I won't bother with all the other replacements because it is the television this review is about, after research both on the inter-net, interviews with several persons of knowledge about televisions including several sales-persons, I narrowed it down to the Polaroid brand basically because it was a name brand that I had learned to trust down through the last fifty years as being a quality product. I found that quality was not the only thing involved now, there was so much more that was involved with a simple television now, terms like "dpi" viewing angle, parental control and built-in CD's, I was over whelmed with the many different changes since we bought our last Polaroid television that I found myself knee deep in information, which I slogged through at the speed of (well not exactly light) never the less, the information pamplets included with our Polaroid seemed to be easier for me to understand, written in terms that I could at least grasp, and then when it came to comparing the prices of this model and the other models we looked at, the differance in what the other models offered and the Polaroid we chose, well to simplify it the choice was already made. We found that we had several other things going for us also, one of the biggest was that it was built to fit exactly into our custom built entertainment center, which was hand made and very expensive, that being out of the way the rest was just a matter of watching the demonstrations by the salesperson, which included instruction on programing the television to our personal needs, and believe you me, there are some pretty complicated systems out there, one needs to be two points less than an electrical genius to even turn some of them on, but our Polaroid seemed to be easily mastered, following the simple instructions soon brought us the perfect entertainment that we had hoped for and at a price that I did not have to invest my personal retirement plan in to attain.
For those who are looking for a television that is friendly to those who are over thirty so to speak, that offers a viewing angle that lets us sit anywhere we wish to in our spacious living room, that offers a trouble free DVD system built neatly into the side of the system were it is not an obnoxious extrusion that looks like something from outer space ever time it is operated, and as of yet after three years of ownership, it is completely trouble free, and seems to be lightning imune, which I know it is not but so far with several electrical storms having wrecked havoc on several neighbors I have not had any trouble.
I find it hard to say much more good about our Polaroid Television, it has performend perfectly and has provided us with three years of trouble free entertainment, so I would venture to say that I am speaking for the brand "Polaroid" more or less because the television we now own is probably not on the market any longer. If you find a good used one perhaps you would not do yourself harm by considering it. It is just good to know that the name of a brand still means something in this ever changeing world.
