Are you a movie afficiando?   Tired of guessing about what movies are good while at the video store?  Forget who starred in your favorite movie?  Want no know who directed it?  You are a candidate for Video Hound!  You may have seen the book (big and heavy)  but you can carry the complete contents in you Palm Treo or Centro phone (or regular non-phone Palm Tungsten, etc as well).

It will cost about $25.00 for the two necessary components (Video Hound has the movie title and a rating from "Woof!" which is really bad, to 4 bones, which is wonderous)  but you will need (and want) the companion software called REX which has all the reviews as well as who starred and directed the movie.   One thing that I really like is that most of the names associated with any given movie (actors, directors, writers, etc) are active links so if you like Tim Burton, who directed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, for instance, tap on his name and all the movies he directed come up.  You can then select any of those movies and go directly to it's review.

Also included are rating (G, PG, etc) country of origin, length and alternative titles.  Complete? Well, I've found a few missing movies but they were pretty obscure.  It does have over 26,000 reviews and is updated a couple of times a year for free.  In fact, I bought it over two years ago and have never paid for an update making the price a bargain.  You would have to buy the printed book yearly to get these updates.

One last cool feature is that you can add movie stills to the corresponding movie along with sound clips.  Also, they also select a "movie of the day" every day for you to check out.  There are many other features as well but you can download a free trial version (works for 14 days I think) and check it out yourself

Have fun.  I'll also review Leonard Maltins software for Palm as well
