Playtex Hip Hammock Child Carrier Review Summary
Designed for older infants (up to 35 pounds), the Playtex Hip Hammock is a baby carrier that allows parents to continue to hold that growing baby while evenly distributing the weight. The Playtex Hip Hammock is described as having “plenty of room for plump little babies,” yet it is also “easy to store” as it folds up compactly. Unfortunately, many of our reviewers found the Playtex Hip Hammock difficult with straps that are difficult to adjust especially once baby is in it. Reviewer harkemak states “such a chore just putting it on and taking baby in and out of it.” Due to not being able to get a proper adjustment, the Playtex Hip Hammock “didn’t seem to be any more comfortable then simply holding them,” particularly for more petit moms. This was the only carrier my daughter would ever ride in. It's great because baby isn't so constricted to your body. It still gives them room to move around, but you still have an extra hand to get stuff done. It's also great for those times your shopping and baby only wants to be carried. It saves your arms from getting tired so fast and you can still do your shopping.
I had tried a couple of different slings and wraps with my baby and just couldn't really find on that I truly loved to continue using as my kids got a bit bigger. Wearing the Hip Hammock was so uncomfortable! Maybe it's because I am a plus sized mom to begin with, but by the time we left my back was aching so badly that I couldn't put my daughter in her car seat. I couldn't adjust it to make it more comfortable;... review »
In theory this product sounds like a good idea. In honesty lets face it when the child is old enough to use this product they've already learned to wrap their legs around you and they are not going to want to be trapped wiggle free in a contraption! Its difficult to get on and even harder to get a squirming child to willingly put their legs into. I used it three times before I gave up. If you love having a back ache that last three days, having a screaming child attached to your hip (literally) and spending a wad of money on something useless then this is the product for you.
This carrier was a great idea when it was developed. I jumped at the chance to buy one, since both of my kids liked to be held/worn on the hip.
My husband loves this carrier. In fact, I have three of them. I have the original Bjorn, the Ergo baby carrier, and this one. He thought this one was the most comfortable and the most practical.
I did not enjoy it as much as he did. I am a lot shorter and my torso is very short. So after awhile, it made it uncomfortable to wear as the strap dug into my opposing shoulder.
This would rank #2 of my three carriers.
We purchased this product for your daughter when she was about 1 1/2. She had outgrown her front carrier and loved to be hold so I thought she would enjoy this! She likes it but mommy can only hold her in this for a couple minutes! It hurts your shoulders SO BAD after a SHORT time! I was very disapointed in this product! Waste of my $40!
