Playtex Drop-Ins Original Nurser Baby Bottle —

Playtex Original Nurser was my first experience with a baby bottle. Even before I had children of my own, I can remember using Playtex Nursers with my nieces and nephews. The main reason this product was so good then and now should be obvious: The convenience. With a product like this, you don't have to scrub and sterilize the bottles like in the past. The reason is because the liners are disposable. The actual bottle is nothing more than a plastic sleeve to hold the liner in place. The liquid never touches the bottle. It only touches the inside of the liner and the nipple. The liners are disposable so they do not need cleaning or any preparation. With Playtex, you clean the nipple, drop in a liner, use the bottle, and then throw the liner away.

Besides the added convenience, these bottles offer some other advantages. Chief among them is the ability to "press" the air out of the liner and prevent it from making its way into your baby's stomach. The way this works is simple. Since the bottom of the bottle is open, you just place your fingers inside and push the liner upward toward the nipple. You keep pushing until you can see the milk (or other liquid) make its way into the nipple and reach the tip. Once here, you know there is no air pocket left and that means there will be less chance for stomach irritation and for spitting up.

Playtex Original Nurser is a good product but there are a few negative points that are worth mentioning. My greatest frustration with these bottles is with popping off the cap. This cap helps to keep the bottle sealed when not in use and it is a real pain to remove. It doesn't screw on like the bottle ring that holds the nipple in place. It snaps down and to remove it, you have to grip it and pop it off. But there is little area to grip and it can often take several tugs to get it off the bottle.

Another problem I have with this bottle is with leakage. The plastic cap that is supposed to seal the top of the bottle isn't very efficient. It has a round hole directly in the center that is designed to cover the nipple and help keep the liquid from spilling out but it doesn't prevent leakage the way it should. This problem is most common when the sealed bottles have been tilted for an extended period of time. If they are stored standing straight up, everything will be fine. But if they end up lying on their side, upside down, or tilted at any angle that allows the liquid to make its way into the nipple there will almost certainly be some leakage.

Overall, in spite of the problems associated with Playex Original Nursers, I am still very happy with this product. The cap is tough to pop off and it sometimes allows milk to leak but this problem is minimal compared to the advantages of using these bottles. Convenience is key and Playtex has designed a very convenient product with its liner- based bottles. It's simple, easy to use, prevents air from making its way into your baby's stomach, and takes less time out of your day. And when you're dealing with a baby's needs, anything that saves time is a worthy product and one that should be considered for purchase.
