It is very impressive in containment of smell depending on the size of the room you put it in. First it was in our daughter's room (~90 square feet) and when we used to open the door of her room after about 3-4 hours, we could feel the smell of diapers. We moved it to the adjacent (much bigger) room...

Prospective parents will find a million and one details to worry about as they get ready for baby's new arrival, but one detail they can safely scratch off the list is grabbing a Diaper Genie pail. These things are a TOTAL waste of money. If you really want a dedicated container near your changing table,... read full review »

We bought a diaper genie at a yard sale before we had our first child. It was the older version with the smaller opening at the top with replacement bags with the pink stripe. Later, we acquired one of the newer ones with a larger opening with replacement bags with the blue stripe. They also makes one with an even larger opening with replacement bags with a green stripe, but we have never used that one. The Diaper Genie is a large plastic trashlike container with a hinged lid. A circular insert in the top contains a tubular plastic bag.

How it works:

  • To set up, place a replacement set of bags...

The diaper genie is does a pretty good job of keeping out the smell.  But when you go to change the bags you find that you have used a lot of bags for few diapers so it's not cost efficient.  I could live with that because it does keep out the smell, but when it's time to change the refill pack that is when it is frustrating and not user friendly at all.  I ended up just putting the diapers in a plastic grocerey sack and tying.  Worked fairly well and much more user friendly.

No one likes the smell of dirty diapers.  But this creates a smell just as bad, but stale, even when it is empty and sprayed with lysol!  My best advice?  Use plastic grocery bags with the air squeezed out, twisted and tied above the diaper making a tight little bundle.  I could never smell those right in my regular trash barrell.

I really was on the fence with whether to give this product a good review, or a bad one.  There were things I really liked about this product, but also things I really disliked.  First off, let me say that I got my Diaper Genie as a gift with my first son.  I used it with both of my boys simply because it seemed to make life easier.  I could just shoot the dirty diaper into the genie, seal it off and then forget about it.

But.  One thing you have to know about this product is: STAND BACK when you open up the base to empty it!!  P-U!!!  The smell that hits you it just horrible.  Think...

I received 2 diaper pails for my shower...this one and the Diaper Champ. I used this one first and I liked it and at first, didn't mind buying the refills. It kept the odor out real well and made nice little diaper sausages of all the dirties. However, I ran out of refills and decided to pull out the diaper champ and put it into action. I now use that one. It is easier to use and can use regular bags --not some special refill kit. The diaper genie didn't always work and you would end up with a big pouch of diapers...yuck! So I still have this but haven't forked over the $6 for the refill kit. I... read full review »

I absolutely loved this when I got it for a shower gift. I have 6 kids and only used this for the last 2. The diaper genie is great for newborn diaper changing. The problem is after your child starts eating regular food or baby food, the poopy diaper seem to stink a bit more! I have just stopped using it with my 11 month old because it doesn't keep the smell contained. Also the cutter on the lid, from the beginning, hasn't always cut the best and you have to keep doing it over and over.

I love my Playtex Diaper Genie, it is so easy to use. The first two or three times got me but it helps alot if you have a really bad diaper to throw away and you really dont want the stinky odor lingering around. It is also easy to empty the diaper genie. There is a button at the top on the left hand side, you push all the way down once and then you twist and then it cuts the bag. You open from the bottom and then you pull the bag out and tie it. When you get done with that you take the refill and you just pull enough bag out to tie a knot and the you...

I recieved the diaper genie at our baby shower.  I did find it easy to place bags into the genie, although once I started to use it, I found it to be very difficult and I ended up just using a grocery store bag hanging on the door.

I read the directions for the genie and it was still difficult to use.  I would put a dirty diaper into the genie, close the top and turn the handle to twist the diaper down into the genie, I then would push the button down for the cutter to work and "bag" the diaper.  The cutter would only cut about an inch of the bag and the rest of the bag just got caught up in...

When I first got pregnant with my daughter, I thought I would need everything a mom would need to make my life a little easier.  Oh boy, did I thought wrong! I had put the Playtex Diaper Genie Pail  as part of my baby registry back in 2006, and got it as a gift from an old college friend.  I thought, 'great, this is going to make my diaper disposal easier' Yeah right!

When I first used it, I thought that the bag would tie the diaper around as I turned the dial and it would turn into individually wrapped diapers, nope. It didn't do that. It was just one continuous twisted diaper bag, which we...

If any of you have been subjected to a the stench of dirty diapers than you will appreciate this product.  The Playtex Diaper Genie Pail is a life saver!  You just put the dirty diaper inside, twist and the smell is gone.  We live in a small apartment so it's important that my entire place doesn't stink like baby poop.  I don't know what I would do without this.  A matter of fact, this is my go to gift at baby showers.  Every new parent needs a Diaper Genie.  The only downside is the cost and installation of the refills.  First off, you can buy them in bulk at kmart or costco to cut down...

We purchased this item when I was pregnant because all the books and magazines said we needed to and everyone raved about the Diaper Genie.  I couldn't wait to use it, I was sure it would take care of all our nasty gross smelly diapers and would be neat to use too!  The first time we used it after our daughter was born, it bundled up one diaper and then promptly jammed.  We didn't realize it was jammed however until we put in the second diaper and ended up with a big smelly mess on our hands.  We just figured we weren't doing it right, so we got out the instruction book and tried again.  After... read full review »

my Playtex Diaper Genie Pail is the best invention ever! My mother has one of the original diaper genies. It was nice, but when I moved away and found myself getting ready to have a little one of my own, I just couldn't seem to find exactly what I was looking for. That's when I found this diaper genie! All of the issues I had with the old one (noise, weight, bag removal, etc) are basically gone! This even has a bag-cutter in it! No more scissor-hunts! I did notics though that the smell doesn't go completely away unless you twist in between each diaper. And they finally made it so yes it may hold...

I have a love - hate relationship with the Diaper Genie.  I love it because, it works.  YOu really dont smell the diapers...even the really bad ones.  As soon as it gets inside the Diaper Genie, the smell is gone.

The things I dont like are the changing of the bags...it always takes a bit of finagling to get them on.   It is not easy to change to the new bags at all.  EVen with practice, you still have to work at it when you replace the bag cartridge.

It does work and it works well...if the refill were easy to use I would give this a  high rating....but those darn refills lower this...
