Prospective parents will find a million and one details to worry about as they get ready for baby's new arrival, but one detail they can safely scratch off the list is grabbing a Diaper Genie pail. These things are a TOTAL waste of money. If you really want a dedicated container near your changing table, just go to Target and grab a STANDARD, inexpensive, plastic pail. You'll thank me for it later.

If you do get the Diaper Genie, I hope you have a strong stomach and a weak nose, because these things get disgusting FAST. You really do NOT want any kind of pail sitting around full of pee and poop. You want to empty the pail often and well, rinsing in between, and zapping with a spritz of Lysol. The alternative is beyond unsavory...something that the Playtex folks never really tell you about in their marketing ads.

Stink factors aside, managing bags is cumbersome and complicated, and honestly, you have enough hassles just figuring out where the butt creme is....you don't want to mess with complicated bag handling. Standard trash cans are just SOOO much better.

Keep it sanitary by keeping it simple: don't buy junk you don't need, and you sure don't need this piece of junk!

Thanks for the warning! I used the old fashioned pail when my daughter was in diapers. However, I always thought the Diaper Genie would make a good baby shower gift. Now I know better. :)
