My husband has had his Playstation 3 for a little over a year now and we have nothing bad to say about the system, besides the price ticket. While it may seem a little steep for a video game console, you have to factor in the storage capabilities, and the fact that you can use your PS3 as a blu-ray player.
The graphics on this system are incredible. It is actually kind of scary to pop in a game in the PS3 and it feels like real life. You will want to have the correct HDMI cables to get the better quality, but if you have a newer TV the graphics are awesome.
The system itself is a little bulky, but I like the black shiny look to it. My husband laughed at me because I could not figure out how to turn the system on for the first time, as there is no raised buttons on the PS3. You just hold your finger on top of the ON switch for a couple of seconds, and the machine starts up.
When the system first became available, there wasn't a ton of games to choose from. Now there are a lot of game to choose from, but a lot are at a hefty price. Since blu-ray is still so expensive, some of the new popular video games are coming out at $60, which can be a lot for the average consumer.
We do a lot of renting of video games, and purchasing games used. The hard drive on the PS3 is nice to save photos, videos, and a lot more. We also use a cable with our PS3 to transfer things to our Playstation portable. Game downloads can be transferred to the portable system with just a cord, taking our video games on the road with us when we travel.
Bottom line: if you can afford it, this is a must have system for the video gamer in your family!
