Doesn't live up to all of the hype

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

My mother bought this "must have" toy for my daughter for Christmas in 2006.  After perusing parenting magazines and doing online research, this seemed like one of those toys that every child was destined to love.

Well it's 2008 and I'm still waiting for my daughter (or even my son) to love Dusty the Talking Vacuum Cleaner.  If it's been used ten times I'd be surprised.  I just don't get what all of the hype was about.  My daughter has more fun pushing around her play broom (well, sometimes it is used as a light saber) than pretending to vacuum with this toy.

I'll admit that Dusty the Talking Vacuum Cleaner is cute and looks good nex...

Playskool Cool Crew Talking Vacuum Encourages and Amuses

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Little kids like to help mom and dad. They usually learn how to help through imitation and they will often observe adult activities and then repeat what they see and hear. Kids will follow this process with most anything, and that includes household chores. One toy that lets children feel part of the household cleanup process is the Playskool Cool Crew Dusty Talking Vacuum, a small toy complete with sounds and sayings.Toy Commentary:Playskool Cool Crew Dusty Talking Vacuum is a small, plastic, upright vacuum. It features two friendly faces: One on the front of the vacuum and one on the brush attachment. It also has sounds and visual appeal. All it takes to get it activated is to ...

Great toy

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

My three-year-old son when visiting his friend always went for this toy first. When we would leave he would try to take it home. So I finally bought this for him and he has not put it down except for when his one-year-old sister picks it up. It is light enough for my one-year-old to push around and is durable enough for my three-year old son to play with. As far as I am concerned I have already got my moneys worth! Hopefully this will be a toy that they will play with for a few years. My son asks for me to get "mommy's" vacuum out and vacuum the floor with him. It's great that he gets to feel involved in helping me and also that I can get some housework done and not feel like I am not paying attention to him. I would suggest this toy for anyone!

A cute toy that my daughter enjoys

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

My daughter received this toy as a gift.  She has enjoyed playing with it and usually "helps" mommy vacuum the carpets with it.  Dusty the Talking Vacuum says a few cute phrases and makes a sound that sounds vaguely like a real vacuum cleaner.  The drum inside turns around to make it look like dirt is filling the chamber.

The cons that I see with this toy is that the paint, especially around the eyes, chips easily.  The cord for the "attachment" is also very short, which frustrates my daughter when she tries to use the attachment like mommy.  The attachment hose is also difficult to attach to the vacuum and comes off easily, causing it to kind of fly around unsecured.

I like that this toy encourages pretend play, and my daughter often plays "house" with it, while cooking, cleaning, and being a "mommy".  This toy comes at a reasonable price, which I believe to be worth the enjoyment and educational play that my daughter achieves with it.

My kids love the Playskool Talking Vacuum!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I got this for my 17 month old son for Christmas. Both he and my 4.5 year old daughter LOVE mimicking Mommy's cleaning around the house, and I figured this might be a hit in our house. After researching toy vacuums, I found that this one got great reviews. I even had difficulty locating one. I found one at Walgreen's, and it has definitely not disappointed. I had hoped my son wouldn't just ditch it and continue messing with my real vacuum. To my delight, he has loved this toy and it has effectively "fooled" him! He loves pushing it around pretending he's vacuuming, and even using the little attachment to get under furniture! And sure enough, my daughter likes to push it around also. The little sounds it makes are cute and not too loud or annoying. This really was a great gift. I run a home daycare, and the daycare kids (ages 17 months and 2.5 years) also loved playing with this today. I anticipate that this will get much use in our house!

so much fun for childhood cleanup

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Who does not love a childhood toy that encourages household cleaning?  While some have complained that this vacuum does not actually pick up dirt, I think it is important to remember that this is a child's toy that helps encourage pretend play and is perfect for imaginary helping around the house.  This is not going to replace a real dyson!  Anyway, back to the toy, this is great for any child aged two to four years old.  The parts on this vacuum are very realistic as there is an attachment hose.  As the child moves the vacuum, the machine makes different noises like they are really cleaning.  Dusty says some funny things that will definitely make your child gig...

a handy toy

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

This is such a creative toy and my kids love to use it. The talking vacuum takes cleaning the house to a whole new level. They sometimes like to help me around the house, but they are to small to use the real, larger vacuum cleaner. When they saw that I had bought them their very own vacuum they were so glad. It has a nice handle that is the perfect size for little hands to grip. The vacuum does use batteries, but they are long lasting so it does not make me have to change it every few weeks- more like every three months or so. The sounds that the vacuum makes can get annoying after my kids have been playing with it for a long time. I am able to turn the volume off, so that is an advantage for me. The vacuum is very child friendly and the kids love all the cool colors on it. The face on the front of the vacuum is also fun for them to look at. The vacuum helps to get my children to walk more often.

Playskool Crew Dusty The Talking Vacuum

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

My son got this as a gift for Christmas, at Christmas his age was about 17 months. He absolutely loves it. On a lighter note I also received a new vacuum for christmas, so he likes to help mommy vacuum everything up. I can get him to do the vacuum, I just can't get him to pick up all the toys before hand. I need to work on that a little bit. The saying's this vacuum comes out with are hysterical some times, if you listen to it. My boy could care less, about any sound other then the fake whirring sound it makes between phrases, he likes to think he's vacuuming. But overall I say great toy. I'm not sure what the price points on it are, but I wouldn't pay more then twenty dollars for it, but that's just me and I'm a little bit of cheap skate. The only negative I can really say besides it not making enough whirring sounds is that the facke hose portion doesn't stay attached well, it's always hanging off it's spot, annoying me to death. I might crazy glue it.

Very worthwhile purchase!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I bought Playskool's Dusty the Talking Vacuum when my son was a baby.  Kids love immitating their parents and he picked up on the vacuum right away.  Anytime I would vacuum, my son wanted to help and vacuum right along beside me.  Even today now that he's four, he will still pick up Dusty from time to time to help Mommy vacuum.  My daughter is two and she loves Dusty just as much.  And it's cute to watch them because they really do feel like they are helping me clean the house and vacuum in all of the spots, nooks and crannies that they see me vacuuming in.  Dusty will talk and make noise, however, my kids don't always turn him on.  They just like pushing h...

Playskool Crew Dusty The Talking Vacuum

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Playskool Crew Dusty The Talking Vacuum is a great toy for both boys and girls. It has so many colors and teaches kids so much that they will play with it for hours and hours on end. My three year old and my two year old never grow tired from playing with it. They just never seem to have enough time to play with it during the day. They enjoy walking around pretending they are vacuuming the floor like mommy does. Its cute how they think they are actually cleaning and i'm not telling them any different. I think that its great that my boys are learning at a young age how to take care of things and have a good time doing it at the same time. If more toys would teach them responsibility and work along with having fun I belive that more children would be interested in working and having a better life when they grow older instead of being led in the wrong direction as they reach middle school. Even high school should be full of fun and excitement and measures of responsibility.

Overall

Playskool Crew Dusty The Talking Vacuum is a great educational toy for any toddler. In the day care center where my child attends theres a 9 month old that loves to sit there and play with this toy also.It keeps the child entertained for hours of fun all the while their learning. The children don't know its an educational toy. There are not any small parts on this toy which is great, because that eliminates the possible chocking hazard tha comes with allot of childrens toys.No loose big parts either.Everthing fits together just right, smooth edges all the ways are.Its very colorful, not too noisey, but makes some noise o keep the childs attention. It comes with  warranty incase anything were to...

a toy to keep your child busy

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Dusty the talking vacuum has made my child feel so good to help mommy clean.  When i vacuum and my daughter gets out her dusty the vaccum to help me it really boosts a childs self esteem to see that there vaccum makes noises and has the same use as a regular vaccum.  Even if your child does not use it while an adult usses theres this vaccum really keeps a child intertained they can push the toy all over and when it makes noises it really connects with the child.  What I also love about this vaccum is the height.  It is not to short for a child nor is it to long for the child but it is the accurate size a child needs for a toy they can push all over the house.  W...

An ok toy. Not a favorit

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

First of all, I did not even know the toy talks until I read the title. We received this toy used a couple of years back from a friend. My child has played with it only a handful of time since them. She will occasionally pull it out when I am vacuuming and pretend to vacuum along with me. It has been an ok toy for her, but one I do not think she would miss if it were gone. The hose on it is pointless as it is hard to maneuvers and does not stay attached to the toy as it is suppose to. I am not sure she has ever played with that part of it. It is a cute idea, but it is kind of hard to stand up without support and doesn't really do much. I am going to have to try and put batteries in it and see if she likes it more. The front does move around things when she rolls it, but she cant really see that as she is using it. It would be pretty cool if it actually picked up trashed as she played. I might encourage her more with it if it did.
