If you want a real taste of old New Orleans, The Place De Armes is perfect! The many different buildings enclose enchanting courtyards with swimming pool, fountains, and lush foliage. A lovely spot to relax after a long day...
Our room was quite large (much larger than an average hotel room) and attractively appointed, with exposed brick on the walls (I loved that!). The wonderful and friendly staff only enhanced our stay. We were surprised to find a bottle of champagne in our room when we returned one afternoon! How sweet! (it was our tenth anniversary)
The location is ideal for quick runs to Cafe Dumonde for cafe au lait and beignets, yum! And Jackson Square is steps away, as is the mighty Mississippi. And do eat at Muriels'!
"Two years later update": True to my word, we stayed here again and LOVED it! I think I found my favorite hotel in New Orleans. And we dined at Muriel's again, and LOVED that too...(a much nicer experience than over-rated Nola)
If you've never been to New Orleans....GO! You'll fall in love....
