Pioneer - DEH-P880PRS Review

i had an Alpine stereo that sounded terrific. But when I traded my car, that went with it. For my new car I wanted something that looked sleek and sounded great. I went out and purchased a Kenwood (Can't remember model #) and that fell way, WAY short from the sound that I was used to from my Alpine. So I took it back to Stereo King here in Oregon and told the rep I was disatisfied with the sound. If I was going to spend $300-$400 on a unit, I wanted to be content and happy with the sound. So, he showed me what he had in his car. It was DEH-P800PRS. The difference in his words were the gold plated ends in the 800PRS which further enhances sound. The 800PRS at that time was about $600 but he told me that if I wanted to spend another $150 dollars, I could buy last years version in the DEH-P880PRS. That is what I did.

I'll just say that the sound of the DEH-P880PRS is ridiculous. It has a 16 band graphic equalizer which allows you to adjust each band to your liking. If you were like me and were confused about that, the system comes with auto time alignment equalizer which sets the bands and sound perfectly to where you will be sitting and hearing the sound. The system also offers BBE which enhances sounds.

The unit is HD, SAT, Ipod ready so if you have alll three or looking to be able to pay all three, like I did. You could.

There are tons of different features on the unit. It offers a screensaver in which you can set the screen to what you like. Offers two different colors in LED. Blue and White.

All in all it's complex, yet unbelievable head unit. If you have the crossovers, amps, woofers you are in for a treat. I asked the sales rep at Stereo King who makes the best sounding stereo system. In his words it was neck and neck between Alpine and Pioneers Premier. I kind of agree. So why only 4 stars? Other than having problems giving anything perfect marks, It's a complicated system to get tuned in correctly. If you don't understand the sound bar or graphic equalizer it's very difficult to get the sound right. On the other hand that is what the auto alignment is for. For dummys like me.

But don't let that persuade you not to buy it. It's one minor things.
