I walked in the theater expecting to laugh a lot and possibly lose rather than gain brain cells while watching Pineapple Express. I got what I expected! Seth Rogen and James Franco (whoa! unexpected hottie alert) had great chemistry in the film. They played off each other's quirky, stoner-ific humor very well. At times, it seemed like the actors used improv in a couple scenes but then again, how much brilliant script can one expect in a pot head movie?

Rosie Perez makes an appearance as a mini cop gone wrong. She's her usual tiny, feisty, badass female character who's gotten herself all wrapped up in a drug war between Chinese drug lords and a egocentric dealer played by Gary Cole. Perez and Cole have some weird, lusty, criminal relationship going on that's sorta silly.

Seth plays an fun-loving, laid back good guy with a pot problem. He has a stoner-friendly job that involves driving around delivering subpoenas to people who are "being served." James plays his right hand man and favorite drug dealer who supplies the best chronic around, Pineapple Express. Smoking the pineapple express brings the two fellas more trouble than they can handle. They survive police chases, near fatal shootings, dust buster assaults and fork stabbings to name a few.

Ultimately, the movie doesn't go totally pro-weed or anti-weed. The overall message in regards to the mary jane is basically that it can get you in trouble, make you lazy and worthless, lead to other drug use..., BUT it sure is fun! Pineapple Express is a fun movie too. I recommend this movie for anyone who's not turned off by stoner, hippie flicks. If you liked Superbad, Knocked Up and any of the Cheech and Chong movies... then dude, you will totally dig Pineapple Express.

I want to see this. Sounds like a renewed Cheech and Chong movie!

I never even heard of this. I'll catch it on DVD.

I still like the one where you got "misted" best!

Maybe I'll check this out at the Lake Theatre (using my senior discount during the day, haha!) when it comes there. Thanks for a great review!

I can't wait to see this? Oh but James Franco is not an unexpected hottie. I've had a crush on him ever since "Freaks and Geeks" (a show which is actually another Judd Apatow creation in which Seth Rogen appears).
