When we are camping we use a variety of fire starters mostly because we buy small packages. At home though we use Pine Mountain Brands Starter Loggs by Conros Corporation.
A Closer View
We get boxes of these logs and pay about $10 for a box of 24 sticks. They come 4 to a package and there are 6 packages in each box. I like Starter Loggs because I find them less messy than other brands. Each log is 6 ½ long by 2 inches deep by 1 inch high. That's a pretty big log. We've paid $1.00 at camping stores for one stick of whatever brand they have and it's a much smaller stick.
I find that ½...
read full review »Living in Florida for the past five years we have had few opportunities to start fires. My husband isn't the most outdoorsy person around. His idea of hiking is spending the day walking around Outdoor World looking at all the camping supplies. Last year we bought a vacation home in Tennessee and it just happened to have a fireplace. Our first winter visit to the house was, of course, cold so we decided we were going to start a fire and enjoy a nice warm living room.
We would have been lost without the Pine Mountain Starter Loggs. I guess that I could have reached back to my Girl Scout days or we...
read full review »If these were packaged individually they would be great. But, unfortunately, they are not. If you've never seen them, each individual package contains a rectangular brick of 4 starter logs that have to be broken apart. Number one, I would rather not handle the bare log when making a fire. I would prefer to grab a pre-wrapped single log and toss it in the fireplace. It's not a big deal but, having small children and not wanting to find out what effect the residue may have on them, I have to wash my hands immediately.
The big deal is breaking these things apart! I've got a grip that...
read full review »After their so called improvements this product is very difficult to light and you cannot get them to come apart easily. I have to take my fire poker and wedge it between them to get them to come apart not mentioning all the matches to light it. I usually have to put a little kerosene on it to get it going. Had better luck with this product before the "improvements."
These starter logs are priced great and work just as good as the exspensive starter logs! I am SOLD on this product. Put one in the fire with a couple pieces of real wood...and you got yourself a roaring fire for the rest of the evening! I start the fire before my Hubby gets home and all he has to do is keep it stoked after he gets home!
Enjoy!

I hav used Starter Loggs for quite a few years and always were real happy with them. I short time ago, I purchased a box of the new improved Starter Loggs from Wal-Mart, and they are no good! They will not light! I plan to take them back the next trip i make to town.
