To make a long story mercifully short, I have acquired over the years a stack of gift cards at least an inch high.  Some of these were truly gifts and many I earned from places like MyPoints, etc.  Back when business was booming, I felt such confidence in the future that I allowed the gift cards to stack up unused, considering them to be as good as money in the bank.  By the time I realized that the shaking and rattling outside my door was the economy sliding downhill, it was already too late to avoid getting stuck with a $50 Bennigan's card that I can no longer use but it didn't take a brick wall falling on me to make me start using those other gift cards.  One of the first I cashed in was for a $50 bonanza over at Pier 1 Imports.

WHAT I BOUGHT:

As my other reviews will attest, I eat a lot of soup and was down to my last soup mug equipped with a convenient handle.  Pier 1 Imports no longer carries their popular crackle-glazed mugs which used to come in peach or green but that's okay because now they have come up with a superior product which is much more durable for microwave cooking -- Festival of Flowers Mugs priced at $6 each.  The mugs are "over-sized" but not overwhelmingly heavy as were the other super-sized mugs also available.

Festival of Flowers Mugs come in two different color schemes and are the perfect weight and size for either soup or one-dish hearty lunches or light suppers out on the patio or in front of the television.  You can fit a nice meal into one of these and still have enough clearance between the food and the rim of the mug to reduce the risk of accidental spillages.  Their size could easily accommodate a dip or some other snack to be passed around at an informal party or late-night Scrabble showdown and their casual festive design makes them perfect either as gifts for young people starting out on their own or senior citizens downsizing into smaller homes.  They also stack beautifully for convenient storage.

Hi! Thanks for reading my review! I was saving my gift cards because I meant to do major redecorating in my kitchen which never came to pass. I certainly am using them up now!

Good old gift cards!

Take care!

I can't believe you have held on to gift cards as long as you have. Because we are such a large family and two more on the way; we tend to get a lot of gift cards as one family gift in place of one gift per person. Believe me, we may be doing well but I make no haste in using those cards!

I know, the only time I ever went to Bennigan's was when I took my friend and her daughter out to a birthday bash (just the three of us) every year. Bennigan's used to be their choice. I thought there wasn't one single THING in there that looked even HALFWAY healthy! It's too bad they went out of business though -- those $50 gift cards used to work out just fine, just enough for all three of us, and we always drank a little toast to the folks at MyPoints who had made it all possible! OH WELL! Got my invitation to my high school reunion a few weeks ago and they can forget it. I don't know what they are THINKING planning something like that for this year. The reunion weekend (two days and nights) would have cost almost as much as a whole week at the Comfort Inn when you add in the dinner and all the other stuff. EXCUSE me but does someone still have MONEY?

Sorry. Hadn't realized Bennigan's went out of business. We occasionally went to Glendale for one of their great hamburgers. They used to have fabulous coupons for what I'd call Heavenly Killers. Great looking stuff with thousands of calories and quarts of fat. Sometimes I think it's too bad we know about all this stuff now. Eating may have been more fun when we were dopes. Ya think?

I don't think they can expire here either but the places can go out of business, as was the case with Bennigan's! There I was, all set to take someone out for their birthday with that card and suddenly one morning the poor Bennigan's employees showed up for work to find the places boarded up!

Should I be getting some for the Scrabble Showdowns in L.A.? (I love world market.) One good thing about poor broke old California: gift cards LEGALLY can not expire here. But, of course, inflation could eat them up eventually. No. No. We're not going to think about that...
