To the Point

I am so disgusted by this service that I have to share my experiences very briefly.

A Closer View

Picasa is a free software download from Google that helps you so they say to located and organize my photos on my computer; to edit and add effects to my pictures easily and to share my pictures through e-mail and prints. Best of all it's free.

I decided to try this service because my trial of Hot Album which came with my camera ran out. I needed to edit my pictures rather than store them but I did copy all my pictures to Picasa and started loading them to Picasa. It was easier than loading them to Hot Album and them moving the pictures for editing.

I really like the editing part of this service. I have basic fixes where I can crop, straighten, fix red eye and fix the light. I have tuning options to highlight and shadow my pictures and I have an effect option where I can make the picture warmer, make it black and white or filter it.

My pictures get organized by date which is nice however the names I've given my folders have been lost.

So far so good. I can deal with the names being gone. What I can't deal with is losing pictures. This is the second time. The first time apparently they didn't get uploaded from my camera. I have never had this problem with Hot Album and I lost pictures of a restaurant to which I had gone since I deleted them from my camera.

I just went to review a movie theater. I had taken so many pictures and only one is in Picasa. I have done a search and my other dozen are gone. I looked in my recycle bin an they aren't there. I am not loading my pictures onto Picasa anymore and I suggest that unless you are using it only as a back up don't risk it.

I don't like it!

I use PhotoShop Elements. I did have to buy it, but it works great. As far as saving, I have files on the computer like document files, but I also upload the ones I really want to hang on to at Kodak.com.

My son-in-law recommended it, but I was never able to get it to work right, so I'm still using Adobe and Microsoft photo viewer. Thanks for the info.
Nice review.
