Physicians Formula Star Perfection Marilyn Monroe Face Powder —

To the Point

I wanted a new pressed powder mainly to keep in my makeup case in my pocket book. I was looking for something that would work just to powder my face when I'm in a hurry. I have been using Clarins products for over a year. I found Physicians Formula Star Perfection Marilyn Monroe Face Powder for less than $6.00. I found it online starting at $11.00. It's not bad but I wouldn't spend $11.00 on it. http://store.usbeautyshop.com/phfostpemamo.html

A Closer View

The fact that Marylyn Monroe is designed in the powder isn't why I bought it since I couldn't see her until I opened it. I bought it because of the claims on the box. These include "Hi-tech goes Hollywood" and "Perfection meets Glamour." The box told me that this powder would diminish the appearance of imperfections for a "photo-perfect finish; that it would slide on my skin like satin creating a radiant sheer illumination. What I really liked I thought would be the "hint of shimmer."

It comes in three colors - translucent, beige and bronze. I got the beige. The box says that it can provide sheer to medium coverage and that is true. I'll get into this in a moment.

I agree that it is lightweight and non-caking. It contains oil absorbing ingredients and I have found that as soon as I apply it the shininess on my face is gone.

We are told it is non-irritating and I have found that to be true. It is fragrance and oil free and hypoallergenic.

My Experiences

I mentioned them a bit above but I do agree that the powder to the touch feels very smooth and "like satin." I like that I can layer it without any caking whatsoever. With one coat on my face I don't get enough coverage. After about three or four I'm satisfied.

I had no idea where the brush was or the mirror that the box says the compact has! I didn't have to pay for a mirror and I prefer a full brush but the flat one that this comes with it is fine for my uses. Anyway I had to figure out how to open the compact and then flip up the powder. Underneath the powder is the mirror and a space for the brush - very cute but it takes up more room than I like.

This can be used over foundation which I haven't done. It is suggested that you apply moisturizer if your skin is dry. I don't apply moisturizer and have had no problem.

Physician's Formula does not test on animals.

So what do I think? Oftentimes when I'm not sure I am by the time I finish a review. I'm mixed about this one. I got it for a great price but I doubt that I would go out of my way to look for it. I have used this brand and have liked it so I might try another one but I really did want some shimmer and it doesn't give me any at all. That's the reason I bought it. Still if you want a pressed powder, mirror and brush that doesn't cake and can find it for a reasonable brush then I would say give it a try.

I am amazed the lengths companies will go to sell a product. I am sure this makeup never touch Marilyn Monroe's face. I also have a problem with them adding the words "Physician's Formula." It's supposed to sound safer and maybe they think we will buy it quicker.
Nice review. Thanks for you input. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if we have to get into the Bare Minerals to get the glitter. I've used BM in the past and liked it. Jo

Thanks for the warning, Jo! I've never tried this P.'s Formula product, but have really liked there products in the past. Although, I have found that those which have a nice glimmer on the top of the product only have it...on the top! And so once you use up that small portion, no more glitter :-( I also prefer a full brush. The tiny one is too stiff, in my opinion. ;-)

But...But....But...If they don't test it on animals, how are you going to know if it will make Fluffy look her pretty best???
