These are digital ITE (In The Ear) hearing aids. The sound changes automatically depending on what situation you located in, i.e.. home, work, restaurant, movies, club, concert, etc... I personally find it annoying because one will change sound and then the other will catch up or sometimes, the other one never does "catch up". I didn't realize that I'd be able to hear the sound go lower or higher.
I like to be able to control the settings myself. There is no on/off switch; you must take out the batteries. And the battery life is 1 week. I've had hearing aids where the battery life has been up to a month or more. This is my 5th pair of hearing aids, and I've never been so disappointed before.
When you put the battery in and put the hearing aid in your ear, you hear the screeching of the hearing aid unless you press the button to the mute option. That I find very annoying. If there was an on/off option, that wouldn't happen. Also, once you turn it back on from the mute option, you hear 4 beeps. Is that really necessary?

Well, from what I understand and have seen, it's the friction of when we hold the hearing aids against our hands or against anything (like in a pocket or the like). That's science for ya!

The bad thing about all hearing aids is that they all screech. Oh well. Thank you for the comment!

I've had BTE's until I was in my 20's then went to ITE's. This is my first pair of ITE that I'm not happy with. I think it also has to do with the fact that this is the first pair that is digital and not analog... I was hoping not, but we'll see when I get my next pair. The audiologist told me the battery life would only be one week no matter what battery brand I used. I use the batteries they gave me.

I have Phonak BTE aides and couldn't be happier. They have several manual settings and the battery life is LONG. Don't use Duracells though. My audiologist says that they can ruin hearing aides and have the least strength. I tried several brands and am happy with Power One or Energizers. I know that BTE's take more energy than ITE's and I only had battery problems with Duracells. Thanks for the review. I'm glad I went with the BTE's if your experience is the norm with the ITE's.

My Dad had a pair and they would screech to where I could hear it across the room. He finally got mad and stopped wearing them as he could never have them fixed properly. He did try another set just before he passed away but they were the same thing as before. Ron
