A few years ago my husband bought me a bottle of Philosophy's Red Velvet Cake shower gel and I fell completely in love with it. It had the most wonderful cherry chocolate cake scent and deep, rich red color and I loved using it.

So when I was at Sephora at Christmas time and saw Philosophy Red Velvet Cake Lip Shine it was a no-brainer - I had to have it. I just knew I'd love it.

Well I don't love it. In fact it grossed me out so bad that I threw it in the trash.

What grossed me out so much? It has the most unpleasant metallic taste and scent. Have you ever bit your tongue or had blood in your mouth and you taste that disgusting, metallic flavor? It's the same thing with this lip shine! No, it doesn't taste like blood, but it has that same sort of sharp metallic tang to the flavor and scent that just grosses me out and completely over powers anything good about the product.

It's a real shame too because it cost $12. And because it is a really nice lip shine otherwise. It is thick and glossy and adds just the right amount of sheer berry color to naked lips or added punch over the top of lipstick.

Not recommended. In fact, the purchase of Red Velvet Cake Lip Shine makes me reluctant to try any of Philosophy's lip shines in the future. Yuck.
