The Verdict: This is one Philosophy product I will buy repeately.
Just the Facts: My husband bought me a bottle of philosophy Red Velvet Cake 3-in-1 shampoo, body wash and bubble bath last year for Valentine's Day. I had heard rave reviews from friends about this one and dropped a few hints that it would make a great Valentine's Day gift. He took the bait and found it at the Sephora store near our house and I am so happy that he did because after I tried it and fell in love with it I went back to the store the next week only to find out that it was all sold out! Wah.
I have never had Red Velvet cake but the color of it and the fact that you don't see it every day (at least not up here in the frozen tundra) totally intrigues me. I had no idea what to expect from this product but I fell in love with it after only one use. It is really thick and creamy and the deep red color is so unique. And don't even get me started on the scent! Wow. In the bottle it smells like cherries, chocolate, and cake. Like Black Forest cake! It honestly smells good enough to eat. If red velvet cake tastes the way this product smells, count me in for a few slices.
But it smells even better when in use and it creates a thick, red lather that's really enjoyable to use. I love the way it looks and the way the scent fills my entire bathroom after my shower is finished. It's not all scent and color though; it works really good as well. It works great as a body wash and cleanses and rinses well. It works OK as a bubble bath although the bubbles are white and not red like when using it as a body wash. But the really weird thing is that it works pretty good as a shampoo. This is odd because I usually really dislike the results I get when using 3-in-1 products as shampoo. They usually make my hair feel dry and I end up with tons of tangles but Red Velvet Cake works pretty good. I still need to condition after using it, but it doesn't make my hair feel awful like other similar products. And if I use this and let my hair air day the scent actually lingers on my hair for a few hours which is very enjoyable.
Closing Argument: I have tried a few Philosophy 3-in-1 products and liked them but this one blows me away. At about $16 for 16 ounces it's a bit pricey when compared to Bath and Body Works and similar products but it is way thicker, lasts longer, smells fantastic and is well worth the price. Unfortunately it's only available in January and February and pretty much flies off the shelves around Valentine's Day so get yours now! 5 stars.
