Phillips Milk of Magnesia uses for Acne —

I learned about Phillips Milk of Magnesia by reading Paula Begoun's book, "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me." Magnesium is a great oil absorber and soother/healer, and it is a lot less smelly, cumbersome, and hard to wash off than most clay masks. This product is so effective at absorbing oil, you can even apply a thin layer under makeup to reduce shine during the day! This takes a little practice; if you get it on too thick you get white powdery residue, but you just have to use a small amount and let it dry. Then gently wipe away any excess before you apply makeup! This helps get rid of red, irritated skin and helps dry up acne when you use it overnight.

Not precisely a miracle product, but very good in the fight against acne and oily skin.

Make sure you get Original and not mint! Mint can irritate the skin!

Wow! I am definitely going to give this a try. My fight against acne and extremely oily skin is a constant battle. At 36, I keep hoping this is going to get better!

I have never heard of LUSH. I'll have to see what it's all about!

I absolutely love the healing powder. I buy 2 at a time. My 10-year old is putting it on her face sometimes because her hormones are already acting up! It really absorbs oil and helps take away the appearance of any redness that you may have. I have to admit, I have tough skin. I do stay away from things that have oil and/or fragrance in them. I've had the most oilest skin all of my life. I just passed my 30's and I still have it. I had acne as a teen that left scarring. The healing powder softens the face more than anything else I've tried over the counter. I put on the healing powder at bedtime (to absorb oil because I wake up and face is an oil slick) and then in the morning I put it on after my foundation. I use regular foundation (Maxfactor longwearing foundation). I actually mix the healing powder (after putting on my foundation) with some mineral powder. I love Youngblood's mineral rice setting powder. I can tell you that I cannot live without AND I keep in stock in my cabinet: the healing powder, buffering lotion (use it day and night even if I don't have a pimple because it really absorbs oil - this is like an astringent), whiting mask (twice a week for oil absorbing and skin brightening - BTW it smells great!), silver powder (dab into the nose for blackheads and then take off with astringent), drying lotion and drying cream (for my daughters breakouts). I recommend these products to my friends. I can only say that I use them daily and they really work for me. I hope some, or all, will work for anyone reading this. :-)

I sure will! Several of us here have tried lots of LUSH stuff so be sure to search for LUSH to find the reviews. PattyTherre and NJchicaa have written tons of LUSH reviews.

I am thinking of trying the healing powder from Badescu- have you used it? Do you have acne? Please let me know what you thought of it if you have used it! I looked into the drying lotion, but Paula Begoun says calamine is highly irritating, so I am afraid it would make me worse. I am sensitive to some chemicals, most particularly salicyctic acid.

I read your reviews and looked at the LUSH website... please, please, review more of their products so I will know what to try!

I use mineral makeup, too- Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals. I wanted to try their new Rare mInerals, but it uses salicylitic acid, and I break out worse from that. I do not have to use the MoM for shine, but it works great every night as a mask!

BubleFan1 wrote on Jan 4, 2008 at 4:06PM

Wow! I've never heard of this. I've suffered with oily skin forever. There are some products I love from Mario Badescu that I use now and keep in stock at home - always. I will definitely give this a try though. How interesting!!!

BayouBengal wrote on Jan 4, 2008 at 2:11PM

Now that is certainly a different way to use Milk of Magnesia! Glad it works for you. An oily shine is so annoying! I fought it years until I switched to mineral makeup :) --Karen

I've heard that it's a good thing to try but never why. So thanks for letting us know. I'm going to try this. Last night I went to use one of my LUSH masks and found it all moldy and it bummed me out. This seems like a better option.
