I'm a skeptic about the application of technology to such simple, mundane and everyday tasks like brushing your teeth.  Thus, it was with reluctance that in 2004 I purchased one of the earliest models of Phillips' Sonicare products.  (The fact that it was offered at Costco and sublty promoted by my dentist were the main factors at me giving the "electric toothbrush" gimmick a try.)

A few years ago, my dentist was concerned about me getting gingivitis in my gums. They were a bit sore and receding slightly from the teeth. My Philips Sonicare toothbrush is the best toothbrush I have ever used!  I wouldn't give it up for the world!  It has it's own little charger, which is very convenient.  I also have the sterlizer for the brushheads.

This toothbrush lasted me almost ten years!  I was sad when the battery finally gave out.  The sensation was strange at first, but after using it a few times it became addictive.  I could definitely tell the difference between the Sonicare and a regular toothbrush.  The Sonicare makes your mouth feel clean and your teeth feel smooth, almost like you have just been to the dentist's office.  The only thing you have to replace is the toothbrush heads, which should last at least three to six months.  Just keep the unit plugged in on your bathroom counter and use it whenever you need to.  Remember...

The sonicare toothbrush has been used in our house for at least 2 years now.  Have never had a problem with it.  The charge lasts about a week.  Since I have been using it, I have not had any cavities.  The only downside is that the brush needs to be replaced ever couple of months and it costs $30 a piece.

It is bulky so it does take a little more space when you are traveling, but because of the battery life, it is worth taking along.
