I got this DVD player for Christmas. It was my first one, but it was easy to use. I have seen other people use DVD players so I was sort of familiar with DVD technology. The player does well and it is fairly small and flat which is good for someone who does not have much room. Now new life is brought...

I was initially very happy with the Philips DVD player (model DVP 3040/37) - versatile, straightforward, compact, fit the budget, good picture and sound.

But just 16 months after I bought it - that's 4 months after the free-replacement warranty expired - the player hangs up (freezes) while switching tracks...

I got one of these for around 40 bucks, and now I can watch all my regular DVDs in Hi-Def. The images and sound are crystal clear. You won't get a better picture from a more expensive unit; HD is HD is HD. Keep in mind, you WILL have to buy an HDMI cable as there is not one included, but once you do, you're all set. Don't let the movie studios fool you into thinking you have to buy all your movies again in Blu-Ray or whatever. My TV verifies that I am indeed receiving a true 1080i HD signal, and that's as good as you're gonna get. And the review that said there is no fast forward is WRONG. It's...

This DVD player is just about the best thing around. I've had it for 2 years now and it still amazes me. I own a meager collection of DVDs... but what I have a LOT of is media files on my computer. I'll admit it - I'm a computer geek. I have more MP3s, JPGs, MPGs and other files than I have clothes in my wardrobe. What I was looking for when I went shopping for a DVD player was a machine that would play the few DVDs I have... and ALSO play data discs of movies, music and pictures from my computer. These days, most DVD players can do that - so it might not seem like a big deal. However, THIS player... review »

Bought this because it offered upfront USB connections.  Don't know if we will use it but it sold it for my husband.  I hate that an HDMI cable did not come with it though.  They are very costly to buy in the stores.  We have orded one online but now we have to wait to hook it up properly.  That means more time setting things up.  We also just bought a Phillips TV so we now have matching TV and DVD player.  In the past we had never had that.  I don't know if this is good or bad but it should prove useful at some point.  The price wasn't bad.  We paid about $60 for it.

I bought a Phillips DVDR 3505 /37 because I needed one with a built in tuner and was assured by the salesperson that this was the best unit to buy both for features and ease of use. The fact is this is easy to use if you want to watch movies on dvd's. It is so easy to use. I'ts also easy if you want to use the one button record. There are simple instructions for that. The problem is using the timer to record - this requires previous experience as a rocket scientist to accomplish. To begin with there is one botton for on/off/standby and this button is crucial to operating this machine. To watch... review »

The lower end line of Philips DVD players are the best on the market.
I have owned 2 in the last two years and let me tell you they play "everything"
If you are like me and have many foreign DVDs ( I was in the military and bought many DVDs overseas) these players are region free and will play your European and Japanese DVDs.
I have 8 children and backup my precious DVDs so my kids do not destroy the originals, they play too.

The best part is I can convert these backups to Dvix or Xvid format and put 4 to 5 movies on a single DVD. Guess what? They play too.

The most recent model I bought was...

My Philips DVD player gets the job done and is a fair price, but I think if I could go back and buy a different one, I would.  There seems to be a common theme among DVD players in that they frequently have a noticeable delay for the dvd tray to pop out.  You push the "open/close" button, and finally 5 minutes later, it decideds to comply and open up.  I guess realistically it's more like a 5 second delay, but living in the spoiled culture that I do, when I push "open," I want it to open.  It also takes a while for it to warm up.  When I push the power button, it takes its time waking up and...

This DVD player is awesome! It plays all of the movies that one can possibly own. It plays movies on all media formats e.g. DVD-R, DVD+R/RW. Also, if you have divx movies, it plays them in high resolution. The USB port is a very nice feature. I've played my divx movies that I have transferred over from my computer to an external hard drive and my thumbdrive.
However there is only one catch, on the USB port, it accepts flash drives/pen drives that have been formatted in FAT or FAT 32, and does not recognize NTFS Format. Typically if you want to add an external drive greater than 32 GB, the dvd...

You will find a good deal in this phillip DVD player. I bought it for a while, my friend bought one also even if she already has another DVD player at home. When I see this pillip DVD player, I immeidatly like it. The first reason is that price is good. Second reason is the shape look good. It look nice with a nice color. I do not like DVD player which is too thin or too thick, this one is right at the correct shape. The last reason to buy this DVD player is because phillip is a good famous brand to trust.

It is important to keep using them. One winter I used another DVD player all the time and...

I purchased a Philips DVD player about 18 months ago and the first one stopped working after about 9 months. I contacted the company as this machine is in my bedroom and had only been used about 10 times. Of course Philips was great and sent me a new one and I sent the old one back. Now this one, being the second one or the new one the company replaced, is beginning to do the same thing as the old one. About half the time the machine will not recognize the DVD until you have opened and closed the door four or five times. This gets annoying when you just want to sit, relax and watch a movie. I'd... review »

I bought this DVD player 4 years ago and it still plays. However I guess it's getting a bit old so it takes a bit longer to load. However it plays almost anything I put in there. However with all the new codecs and features, buying a newer DVD player might be a better idea. For those who watch movies with subtitle and want HD quality video playback, you might want to try Pioneer DV-400 or Oppo DV980H. If you want something cheaper there's Philips 5962 which has usb feature.

we have two of these and really enjoy them...they are a great deal for your money.  we have had two previously to these but have given them away because we moved..silly us!  but when we went to buy again we went right back to them bacause they are a great value for your money...so buy now and don't regret your choice on a cheaper one that has no features.
