A decent DVD player for the money

2

A few years back, I had recently purchased a high definitilon plasma television.  I did not have the money to upgrade to blu-ray(or HD DVD that was popular at the time), so I began looking into DVD players that would up-convert the quality to a higher level than standard definition.  So, I found this DVD players and liked the cost. Another of the great benefits was the USB drive.  You see that on tons of models now, but this was one of the only models I could find that had it.  I like to watch a lot of media that I download on my laptop, and this was the main reason I wante the USB: so that I could just plug in my flash drive. This worked pretty well and has defintiely served its purpose.  I have, though, had some issues with this DVD player. First of all, there are times when it won't even recognize a disc.  I'm talking about a DVD that I've played a hundred times in this same DVD player.  This doesn't happen often, but it has happended enough to be really annoying. The remote is also really weak.  I'm talking about having to point the remote straight at the DVD player and sometimes having to do that 3 or 4 times before it works. All in all, it's about what you should expect from a DVD player in this price range.

Amazing DVD player

5

This was the second Philips DVD player I bought.  I got it because it can play not only play, but upconvert DVDs, but it can also play AVI files off of CD, DVD, and through USB.  I have a degree in video production and wanted a DVD player I could check to see what files looked like on TV, since they look different than on a computer screen.  All I have to do is put my AVI onto a USB flash drive, plug into the Philips, and it will play.  I also love this player because it upconverts DVDs.  By saying it upconverts, I mean that the DVD player processes the video files, so that the video looks more like high def.  I will not convert the video to true high definition, of play blu-ray of HD DVDs, but it will make the DVDs look much better.  The start up time for this DVD player is slow, almost to the extent of being annoying.  If you are playing AVI files, those can also take a while to load once you hit play, regardless if you are trying to play they from a DVD or through USB.  Even if you don't need to play anything but regular DVDs, this is a great DVD player and worth getting.

Best inexpensive DVD player around

This DVD player is the best stand alone DVD player in my opinion. It has a great range of media that can be played. The picture is good when plugged in with component cables. Its sleek, thin, lightweight design make it that much better.
