I have a terrible confession to make. Actually, I have probably accumulated my full share of things to confess but one of the most embarrassing is that I am one of those weird people who don't like cream cheese! I have told myself that Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese deserves my highest esteem and that everybody else (apparently) is lapping it up with gusto but the fact remains that -- unless it is mixed with something else or employed as an ingredient for the greater good -- I'm just not a fan.
Then along came Kraft Philadelphia Reduced Fat Cream Cheese and I figured I would give it a try. After all, my major complaint about the famous white stuff beloved to bagel fans everywhere is that -- aside from a taste that I couldn't quite get used to -- I thought it was actually TOO rich. I envisioned this new version as being something whipped to a light almost frothy creaminess. Alas, someone has done a wonderful job of producing a cream cheese which is exactly like the original but with a third less fat.
STATS:
Two tablespoons constitute a single serving which contains 70 calories with 50 calories from fat. There are six grams Total Fat, 3.5 grams Saturated Fat, zero Trans Ft, 20 mg. Cholesterol, 140 mg. Sodium, 2 grams each Total Carbs and Sugars, and 2 grams Protein. Also included are 8% (D.V.) Vitamin A and 4% Calcium.
MY VIEWPOINT:
Cream Cheese Lovers of the World unite! You are probably going to like this new advanced dairy "delight" every bit as much as you did the original. As far as I could see, the two products are almost identical and I'm still not crazy about either of them BUT cautious experimentation has revealed that there is something to be said for a "schmear" of Kraft Philadelphia Reduced Fat Cream Cheese spread on warm whole grain toast and topped a thin layer of Smucker's Sugar-Free Jam. I'll concede that much.
