I grew up with Boxers all my life. Our family will probably never own another breed. Are you loyal to one breed or do you have a couple favorites?

Retrievers or labs definitely for me... but I'm willing to look at others as long as they aren't a yippie dog

Mutts! I never had anything but. I do like dogs with a Lab mix though. They are soooo gentle and loving. My current dog is a Jack Russell Terrier. They say he is full Jack but he isn't. He's tiny like a toy dog. I wouldn't recommend a Jack for anyone with kids. They get a little snippy. Labs will take anything and never bite or growl.

I've fostered all sorts of dogs including: pit bulls, Newfies, Saint Bernards, JRTs, beagles, corgis, terriers, Boxers, labs, Viszlas, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Min Pins, Chihuahuas, and every mix you can imagine.

My favorites have been the lumbering Saints and Newfies, even when they were puppies.  I like a mellow kind of dog.  I'd NEVER own a beagle or JRT and definitely not a mix of the two.  They bark, bay, and chase after everything that moves.  I met more neighbors in the month that I fostered an accomplished escape-artist JRT/beagle than I have in the rest of the 4 years that I've lived in this town.

I love Keeshonds! Someday, I will have one. Right now I have a pom, a cavalier king charles, and a japanese chin. I love poms, but they are yippy, and they are not for most people. The cavalier is a small spaniel and an excellent family dog, they have genetic heart problems though and bad teeth, the chin is a great family dog for older children. They are not barkers and have a single coat so they are easy to care for.

I have an affinity for many breeds. I grew up with german shepperd's, an irish setter, a husky and an australian sheepdog. Really didn't care for the sheepdog, lots of work and training needed that our family could not provide and he was always running away. I can't blame him, I wanted to many times.

I have always loved keeshonds, but i have never had one or known one personally So I don't have a favorite breed, and I think muts are great, too. For my family, the Chin has been the best fit. As we have three and they are fairly young and healthy, I don't see us getting another dog for a long long time. And we will never have three again! So much work now that we have a baby.

Ok I really do have the answer. I've had 4 dogs

A minituare poodle who was like a sister to me growing up.

A beautiful, smart Cocker Spaniel who bit my nipped at my daughter until we thought we'd have to give her away but we stuck with her and she lived to be almost 17. Not for kids though HUGE exclamation point.

We had an adorable West Highland White Terrier who was precious. A great family dog. Lovable and great with everyone. Not the brightest on the planet and she was prone to dermatitis but a great dog in any case.

Now we have the MOST precious Pomeranian ever. We didn't even know what a Pom was but she is so smart, loving and beautiful (We try not to emphasize her beauty:) However she's high strung and again probably not great with kids around but as an only child she is amazing. Jo

My parents adopted a Bichon Frise 12 years ago, and that was it for me.  I've had my own adopted Bichon, Daisy, for eight years now.  She's the sweetest, loveable thing.

Bichons demand attention (in a good way) and are usually lap dogs.  They are great for people with allergies since they do not shed, which is nice since we can eat our dinner without worrying about flying furballs.  ;)

Pound puppies! The ones I've adopted have been super. The only hard part is leaving all the others behind. I do go volunteer at the shelter sometimes and wash and get the fleas off the puppies. That helps them get adopted. That's hard though, because then I want to adopt them all.

Teehee. We adore our cat too. Sugar thinks he's the boss of the whole house. He likes to go outside now and then. The dog has to wait in the yard if Sugar deems that he wants to sit on the porch for a little while. I watch for rain, so Hershey won't be stuck out in the yard getting wet while the cat smiles at him.

I love just about any kind of dog, but like any thing else, I do have my favorites!

I love beagles, beagle mixes, lab mixes, and dalmatians...and all those breeds have shared our household at some point.

We currently have a 6 year old beagle/corgi mix.  She is a doll.  A definite mix of tom-boy and diva!  Our other beagles and beagle mixes loved to bark a lot, but Lily is soooo quiet.  We adopted her at 2 years of age, and she did not bark until she was in our household for about 5 days, and even then it was not much barking at all.  Everyone that comes to our house just loves her.

I love the pound pups too. When I was 14 I volunteered at the local humane society, After I married, most of the dogs we acquired were from pounds, some at the same place where I had volunteered at.  They make the best pets!

Yorkshire Terriers are the best...  Yorkies are great dogs: smart, cute and affectionate.  They are NOT GOOD with children.  There are many dogs waiting at shelters for a good home... like my little Yorkie...

I am crazy about the Retrievers and also adore many other types of dogs which my friends own (including the little lightweights!).  Although I don't own a pet, I certainly enjoy those which belong to my friends.  I think one of my most favorite breeds is what is commonly known as "Shelties".  One of my best friends has owned a dog like this for years and "Lady" is just adorable -- not just because of her pretty face and lovely fur (she looks like a miniature "Lassie") but because her breeding as a "herding" dog has instilled in her an inherent concern for the people she loves (her "herd"!)  She is always wandering around, looking up at us with this expression of anxious concern as though she's wondering if we're okay or if we want something.  She is really cute but Shelties are special dogs who need a family to watch over, a yard where they can run without a leash, a home which is cool in the summertime, and also someone who is willing to give them a good walk every day.

I really enjoyed reading all  your posts about your dogs.

I have to admit, I love dogs. Growing up we had a pure bred husky and a husky/Shepard mix we saved from the humane society (and I do mean saved - she was going to be euthanized the next day).

Honestly, as a kid I always wanted more dogs and I didn't care which bred. One week it would be a smaller toy and the next week a huge working dog. It was all over the place.

Now I have a family, I can't wait to introduce dogs. My kids both KNOW dogs, but our backyard is nonexistent thanks to a pool (pardon the grumbles). Obviously no backyard = no real dog.

At the moment, the hubby and I are big into St. Bernards. I'm sure realistically we'll just get a mutt, but it's still fun to dream of such a hairy, slobbery beast!

My dog was the best dog ever - and he was a mutt.  Beagle Terrier to be exact.  Had the coloring of a beagle but skinny legs and body more like a terrier.  And pointy ears that flopped down.  The best was that he had a little white mark on his the top of his butt/back, and a little white mark on the end of his tail.  When he wagged his tail, it looked like he was painting his butt :-D

I must agree with you.  Pound pups make the best dogs.  I have a great story about a papered dog.  Someone was telling me a story about a dog that she bought with papers.  I don't remember what kind of dog but she asked a friend what kind of dog her dog looked like.  The person replied, a bassett hound, and the owner said, thank god that's what I thought.  I have these papers for him and he's not supposed to be a bassett hound.  She went back to the breeder and it turns out the guy had a bassett hound out back that escaped and breed with the pure doggy and now she has this registered, papered bassett hound mix.  So our moral of that story is... adopt a pound pup, you probably won't know what you're getting anyways and it's cheaper.

I can't say that I have a favorite because any dog that comes into my life would be cherished and not looked down upon because of his breed.  Although I will contradict myself and say I'm not big into tiny yappers.
Right now I share my bed with an American Staffordshire Terrier (commonly confused with a pit bull - same bully group).  Of course if you really want to know all about him read my review.

Hey Jazzy, I have to agree about the yappers.  I call them nippers b/c those little dogs tend to nip and bite at you out of nowhere.  My cousin used to have a little dog like that and everytime you'd play with him you had to be careful b/c he'd suddenly just get unhappy and start nipping at you!  I like my dogs to be around 20lbs or more

Whatever I got at the time. I started with Shih-Tzus and now have a Chihuahua.  All small house dogs.  These are all trainable and people comment how well they are behaved.  They are very smart and clean for animals. ;> I am not big on yard dogs.

Just fyi - My Hanna was touch and go for a couple of days. We were in CA and got a call from the kids that she had spots on her belly. Our vet told them to take her to an ER hospital so they did. They did so many tests two of which we are waiting for the results- bone marrow and tic titre. She is on 3 meds just in case and hopefully they'll know what's wrong and be able to treat it with one medicine. She's so precious. The thought that "she might not make it" had me in tears - well hysterical would be the right word. She's a parti-colored Pomeranican.

I'm so sorry to hear about this.  It is heart-breaking when animals become ill because there is so much they can't tell you about how they feel.  I will pray for your Hanna.

Boxers, boxers, boxers! We have had a lot of different breeds - Rotties, Cocker Spaniel (would NOT recommend for a home with children), Shetlands - and even though we have loved each and every one of them, we absolutely love Boxers the best. We currently have a 5 year old male named Rex and he is the most loving, energetic dog we have ever had. He loves to go outside and play so keeping up with my daughter or going running with my husband is great for him. He has never snapped at anyone and we rarely ever hear him growl. Usually only at the squirrels and ducks outside our patio and only because he would love to go out and play with them. Since he is a pretty big dog we can't have another right now (limited yard space) but the next dog we do get will be another boxer.

Thank you and everyone please pray, chant or whatever you do. She seems to have an autoimmune disorder and will have to be on meds but we're still not 100% sure. She had a blood test again and will have to have one for the next month or so weekly. She's a bit more spunky but she still isn't back to being our Hanna, still I love having a small dog. Jo

Growing up, my Dad always had German Sheppards - they were all great dogs!

Currently, I have an 8 year old Beagle and a 7 year old PUggle.

The Beagle is my baby..his barking is a bit annoying but it's only when someone is approaching our house, etc.

My PUggle is just the sweetest girl ever.  She's loveable, LOVES the kids and is a pleasure to have around.  (Inside joke.  SHe's so sweet we tell people that you could break her leg and she would probably kiss you for it).

I love my kitties too..... :)
