I've owned 1 Black Lab. His name was lucky because he was lucky that my husband didn't shoot him. My husband wouldn't do that of course but that's where the name came from. He got out one night in a blizzard. My husband went out looking for him for over an hour with his car windows down, driving with one hand & holding a flashlight out the window & calling his name. He finally found his tracks heading right back to the house. Lucky had come home about 10 minutes after my husband left. My husband was relieved that he was ok but didn't speak to him for 24 hours. He was also gun shy. having said all that, he was beautiful, loyal & lovable. I don't understand how people can think they all look alike. I could have picked Lucky out of 100 Labs. Last but not least, they are a great family dog.

We have 2 black lab mixes, one 15+ years, one 5+ years...both adopted.  Our older one has a tiny bit of pit/rot or dobie, (no one has been able to tell so far)  He has a bark that shakes the windows.  He's very good for protection, and sleeps with us.  They are inside dogs, but occasionally visit outside.  Love labs and their mixes too!

Annie & Jack Black are my world.  Annie is towards the end but still eats voraciously and drinks like a fish.  She's mostly bed-bound inside and loves to sit outside on cool mornings and watch the squirrels scamper around.  Jack Black, the younger one, just wants a squirrel snack mostly...or a bird...

Funny story, a neighbor's chicken got in our yard a few months ago.  Jack chased it, caught it and Annie took it away.  She ate all of it and left the chicken beak for Jack.  Jack knows his place in the pack order and there was no fighting over that chicken whatsoever.

I have two black labs as well.  Their photos are on my profile page.  I think one of ours is really smart and the other, well maybe not so much but they are both great with kids.

I had a Black lab that lived to be 16 and got another who's now 3 years old. After having experience with two black labs I can say that they are smart, great with kids, and super-affectionate. Although they are bigger in size than most breeeds, they are great for city/indoor setting as well. I do have to say that the purer the pedigree, the greater the propensity of them getting skin diseaeses in the long run. All in all, I dont think I'll ever own a dog that's not a black lab!
