The Petmate Fresh Flow Cat Fountain is actually a life saver for my oldest cat. It was recommended by the vet that he drink more water and that it be filtered or distilled. He never wanted to drink water other than out of a cup. He didn't drink a lot or drink often. He was diagnosed with crystals in his urine. That's why the vet changed his diet and wanted him to drink more water. So I tried the Petmate Fresh Flow Cat Fountain. It was a huge success for my cat. At first he was obsessed and just wanted to watch it. Then once he discovered that he could drink from it he was thrilled. He drank more water than her ever did in his life. He still does and his health has improved considerably. Quality of Ingredients I'm assuming this means the quality of the water in the filter. If so the quality is very high because it is filtered. You can also run it without the filter but I choose not too. As long as you take apart and properly clean the fountain the water quality is high. Flavor Selection The flavor of the filtered water must be high because my boy drinks more water than he ever did before I purchased the fountain.

This fountain filters the water and keeps it cool. You fill up the reserve and it fills the base as needed. While I absolutely loved the idea of this it has some drawbacks. First, you need to change the filter every thirty days, which I always forgot to do. Second, this has to be plugged in to work, no batteries. I had to find a spot to put this where I had an outlet that was still out of the way so we weren't tripping over it. Third, the pump that moves the water is not hidden well and water and cat hair got in there and it's very hard to keep clean. If they could make this battery operated or even rechargeable and secure the pump better, I think it would be a lot better. Quality of Ingredients The main component seemed to be made well. Not cheap thin plastic. We tripped over it a few times and it never broke. They do need to make sure the pump is more secured though, water gets in there and so does dirt and hair. Flavor Selection Well I guess you could put milk in the base of it but to use this correctly and not break it you can only use water in the reserve.

I'm sort of ashamed that our cat has become this spoiled. Before I got a cat I would have rolled my eyes at the thought of someone purchasing a product such as this. However our 5 month old kitten was obsessed with begging for water at our bathroom sink faucet from the day we brought her home. We had dishes of water in 4 rooms of the house and she drank from them very seldom. She was resorting to waiting anxiously outside the bathroom door when we took bath or showers and then licking the tub dry. I knew I had to do something for the safety of this kitty....so I bought this fountain. Within 2 days she decided that fresh water was better than licking the tub. She loves this fountain and I'm glad there are no longer cat hairs in my bathroom sink or bathtub. The unit is very quiet and easy to clean. Our cat drinks enough that we have to clean and refill the unit about every 3 days.

There are many different choices on the market that will help you give your cat fresh water every day. The Petmate Fountain runs about midway in price, but is worth every penny. Having only one cat, this fountain worked great. It does require some maintenance but is far less work than filling up a water dish and washing it every day. My cat loved the flowing stream of water. She wouldn't drink out of a plain dish and prefered the faucet, but she loved this fountain. The fountain is almost silent, no annoying water running noise to put up with like some of the more expensive products offer. Besides the cost of purchase, you will have to purchase filters for the fountain, but they are easy to come by and inexpensive. The unit requires cleaning every now and then, but it comes apart easily and goes back together easily. If you have one cat, and a busy life style, this fountain is for you.

I bought this for my Maine Coon mix who is obsessed with water and could watch it all day.  He loves the fountain.  My orange tabby just got diagnosed with chronic renal failure and the vet suggested we allow him to drink from the faucet in the tub (which he loves and i can't stand) or use a fountain to ensure he's drinking a lot.  So I pulled the fountain out of the closet and filled it back up. The Maine Coon is excited, and the orange tabby is drinking really good quantities to help with his kidney issues.  This alone is reason enough to say this product is worth it. There are downsides though.  Depending on your water quality, it can leave reside and such and needs to be cleaned, which is very difficult.  There are small nooks and cavities that are difficult to scrub out.  And then the motor even needs cleaning with is hard to detach from the unit. It also gets very loud when water is running low -- which is a nice indicator, but can be annoying.  You also have to learn to block out the constant sound of water flowing.
